Abides Forever
Abides Forever
Everything around us changes from moment to moment. Loved ones get older and die. Babies are born and grow. Plants of all sorts show the changes of the seasons in their lifespan. Theories come and go. Inventions come and are replaced with something else.
We can count on getting older and dying. It’s a fact of life.
And yet, there is something that never changes. “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today, yes, and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8) God is eternal and He is not wishy-washy about His definition of holiness, purity, and righteousness. Therefore, Psalm 125:1 says,
Those who trust in the LORD
Are as Mount Zion, which cannot be moved, but abides forever.
The Hebrew meaning of Zion is: conspicuous — a monument or guiding pillar – a sign, title, or waymark. Zion is a reference to God’s eternal city, our heavenly home. The psalmist says Mount Zion cannot be moved. It will not change. God’s eternal city abides forever. There is nothing that can change the way anyone will be able to enter that holy city. And — only those who trust in the LORD abide forever — because they cannot be moved away from their trust.
This Zion — this eternal city of God — is a conspicuous guiding pillar throughout God’s word to lead us to our heavenly home. It is a waymark throughout our travels on this earth and shows us what we should want to become at the end of our journey here. It’s good to pay attention to road signs so we know where we are headed.
It is trusting in the LORD — faith in the LORD — that enables us to enter our heavenly home. Nobody can take our eternal home away from us when we staunchly trust in the LORD.
So, we need to ask ourselves a few questions.
- Am I trusting in the LORD?
- How does my life show that I am trusting in God?
- Am I easily moved by the opinions of this world?
- Am I solidly grounded in the word of God?
- Am I following the road signs in life that God has set up for me?
To learn to trust in God, we need to become grounded in His word, so that the “politically correct”, wishy-washy, leanings of this world do not move us away from eternal salvation in Jesus Christ.
If we want to abide forever with the Lord, we need to trust Him for our every need. Nothing is more important than trusting the LORD of lords, and God of gods. Our life depends on it.
If something is trying to “move” us away from the LORD, we need to go to our Savior to get the help we need for standing firm in the truth. He alone is our strength. We draw near to God through prayer, studying His word to us, and living according to His ways.
When we stand with Jesus, nothing can move us and we say, “Hallelujah! My Lord, You are my righteousness. Thank you for faithfully helping me to be strong in Your salvation and love.”
Love,
Margaret
