Rejoicing At Halloween
Rejoicing At Halloween
There are many stories and verses throughout the Bible that show us God’s disgust with heathen activities like Halloween. It is all because Halloween celebrates and glorifies myths, superstitions, and everything else that is opposite of God’s holiness, purity, and righteousness. I wrote a post on October 3, entitled, \”Is It Not Themselves They Spite?\” that considers just one of the biblical accounts of God’s disapproval of everything like Halloween.
But today I want to rejoice at this Halloween time. This rejoicing is based on what God has done for us and is expressed by King David in Psalm 34:1-3,
I will bless the LORD at all times;
His praise shall continually be in my mouth.
My soul shall make its boast in the LORD;
The humble shall hear it and rejoice.
O magnify the LORD with me,
And let us exalt His name together.
King David goes on to rejoice in how God helps the righteous and humble, who have a deep respect for all that God is. Here are a few of the reasons why I rejoice in the LORD at this Halloween time. Really, they are reasons for rejoicing at any time and they are based on David’s list in Psalm 34.
- The LORD answers our prayers and delivers us from our fears.
- God’s children never have to be ashamed because they can always be reassurred of God’s special love for them.
- God’s angels encamp around all those who respect God Almighty, so that they can rescue them.
- The LORD is so good — nothing can match His goodness.
- The LORD takes care of all our inner most wants and needs, so that we are strengthened to live to His glory.
- God leads us in knowing how to live for Him. He shows us the way we should go.
- The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and His comforting arm saves us.
- It doesn’t matter what sorts of trials we have to face on this earth, God delivers us from them all.
- All who hate the righteous will be condemned.
- All who trust in the LORD will be saved.
To David’s list we can add more reasons to rejoice:
- We have a Savior who has washed away all of our sins.
- Our salvation is a gift from God, so we don’t have to “earn” it.
- We have been loved by God even while still in our sins.
- We can turn to God for the help we need at any time.
- God has proven His faithful love for us over thousands of years.
- God keeps all His promises.
- We don’t have to be afraid of myths, superstitions, lies, or anything else perpetrated by Satan to take us away from our Savior.
- We don’t have to be afraid of the opinions of mere people, who choose not to trust in the LORD. Their opinions don’t count in eternity.
This list could continue for a long time. So, let us rejoice in everything that glorifies the love and salvation we have in Jesus Christ, our Lord. Rejoicing, we say, “Hallelujah! My Lord, Your righteousness and holiness and love are beautiful beyond compare.”
Love,
Margaret
