So Walk In Him

Colossians 2:6

As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord,  so walk in Him.

It’s easy to say,  “Sure, I’m a Christian.”      And yet, it can be ever so hard to walk as a Christian should walk.     To walk as a Christian means to live our faith — to live the truths that Jesus lived — to be assured that everything Christ said is absolute truth because He is God in human flesh — to know that no matter what happens here on earth, heaven is our real home.     We don’t have to get all torqued out of shape by what happens on earth because this is just a temporary place we are walking through in order to reach home.     Everything we see around us now will soon enough be gone.

We know that when we are walking somewhere, we have a goal and we progress towards our goal.     We do need to be checking our progress with our walk in Christ.     Are we progressing each day as we grow in God’s grace?     In other words, are we learning to look more and more to our Lord and finding our peace and rest in Him — no matter what sorts of troubles we are facing?

Then,  is our walk in Him continuing day by day?     Or, are we easily sidetracked with all the temptations along the way?     We need to stay on track if we have any intension of actually reaching our goal.     This is a marathon.

Walking in Christ implies a consistency — a harmony in fellowship — a togetherness enjoyed.     In looking at our walk, do we just “sometimes” enjoy the love of God and then, at other times forget about our Lord?     Because we are so easily distracted by everything the world constantly shoves into our faces, we truly need to hold closely onto our Savior’s hand every step of our way.     We simply can’t afford to let anything separate us from our walk with Christ.

This “holding on tightly” to Christ is called persevering.     James 1:12 gives us a special promise for holding on tightly no matter what.     James says,

Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial;  for once he has been approved,  he will receive the crown of life,  which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.

In our walk, we need to remember that Satan is fully aware of each person’s weaknesses.     He knows exactly how to trip us up in our weakest points.     That’s where the persevering must come in.     That’s where we have to hold onto Christ and remember that Christ alone is the Victor.     He is the King of kings, God of gods,  and Lord of lords for all eternity.     No matter what Satan throws at us, we must always look to our Savior.

We might really be hurt in this world, but our victory is in heaven.     So, let us always walk in the Lord every step of the way.

As we walk in Christ, let us joyfully step forward, knowing that God’s way is the right way, and we can say,  “Hallelujah!     My Lord, thank You for carrying me every time the going gets too rough.”

Love,
Margaret
