To Be Sin On Our Behalf
To Be Sin On Our Behalf
Some people carry the guilt of their sins day after day. They never let go of the burdens of their sins, but keep adding to the weight of their burden, as they recognize each day’s new sins. The burden is unbearable. When we realize how condemning our every sin is, we can become totally overwhelmed and crushed.
Of course, there are other people who refuse to recognize any of their sins as being sinful. They are arrogant and bold in their sin as they refuse to believe in the existence of hell. They want to believe in heaven, but refuse to believe in hell.
But, for those who realize how grossly offensive our sins are, and the fact that no unclean person is ever able to enter heaven, God plainly tells us what He has done for us. 2 Corinthians 5:21 says,
He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
Christ Jesus is totally pure and holy, with not even one little sin. Yet, God made Jesus “to be sin on our behalf”. Our every little sin has been laid on Jesus. He has carried our whole load. It’s a done deal. Our sins are totally paid for on the cross. God did it this way “that we might become the righteousness of God”.
True love is righteousness. True love is compassionate, empathetic, merciful. God is love. Because God is love, His compassion, mercy, and righteousness just had to make the payment for our sins, so that we would not stand eternally condemned. So, when our sins are all washed away, we are a work of God’s righteousness. We can’t wash our own sins away, but God’s righteous love can. That is all done “in Him”. It is all through faith in Christ Jesus. We can’t trust ourselves, some church, good works, or anything or anyone else. Our faith must be “in Him” alone.
We also need to realize that God’s righteous love is eternal. God’s love is shown in all of creation, and in His promise of a Savior in the Garden of Eden. God often repeated His promise of love and a Savior through various prophets in the Old Testament. Isaiah 53:4-6 describes our Savior 740 years before Jesus was even born. Isaiah prophesied,
Surely our griefs He Himself bore,
And our sorrows He carried;
Yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken,
Smitten of God, and afflicted,
But He was pierced through for our transgressions,
He was crushed for our iniquities;
The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him,
And by His scourging we are healed.
All of us like sheep have gone astray,
Each of us has turned to his own way;
But the LORD has caused the iniquity of us all
To fall on Him.
When God said something is a done deal, it is a done deal. God said our sins are paid for, so they are paid for. We need to realize that Jesus has already carried the load of our sins. Since it is an already done job, let us just graciously say, “Thank You!” with grateful, trusting hearts. We know God cannot lie, so we can believe His holy word regarding all our sins.
Knowing God truly loves us, we say, “Hallelujah! LORD, thank You for loving us from all eternity in Christ Jesus. Surely, we were loved even before we were born.”
Love,
Margaret

Not that I have already obtained it, or have already become perfect, but I press on in order that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus.
