A Light to My Path

June 21, 2012

A Light  to My Path

We all  have a way  of making it  from day to day.     That is our  “path”  through life.     Some are on a terribly rough path  of drugs,  addictions,  crimes,  hatred,  fighting,  laziness,  lies,  etc.     They don’t have to live  that way  and many — after suffering for awhile —  seek diligently  for a way  to get off  such paths.     It is only through God’s grace  that one can get  on the path  to eternal life,  and the rest  we so sorely need.

God’s word  says a lot  about the paths  people take  through life.     If we feel like  we’re traveling alone  through life,  we need to hear  what God says  about that.     Psalm 119:105  reveals an awesome truth  for our travels,

Thy word  is a lamp  to my feet,
And a light  to my path.

We don’t have to be  stumbling through life,  always doing stuff  that gets us  into trouble — and sucks us down  to eternal condemnation.     We can use  God’s word  to help us see  and understand  the right  path through life.     God’s word helps us  to see  the difference between  good and evil,  and how  what is good  will draw  us closer  to our Creator and Redeemer.     In God’s word,  we will see  the marvelous love  of His grace.     In God’s word  we will understand  God’s salvation  through faith  in Christ Jesus — and we will realize that this  is truly  the good path  we want to be on.

We aren’t struggling  on our path  through life  all by our wee some.     God is so near  every second  of every day, that we need to realize  just how closely  He is  keeping tabs  on us.     Psalm 139:3  says,

Thou dost  scrutinize  my path  and my lying down,
And art intimately acquainted  with all my ways.

God Almighty  is  “intimately acquainted”  with our every thought and feeling.     When God scrutinizes  our paths,  He is examining  our every reasoning  for doing what we do,  and He knows when we are planning  to do good  or bad.     Because the LORD  is able  to scrutinize  our every thought,  He is just and righteous  in all  of His judgments.     He knows  when we are putting  our faith  in Him  and when  we are trying  to make our own selves righteous  by doing good works — totally disregarding  the perfect salvation  we need  to be accepting  in Christ Jesus.

There will always  be times throughout our lives  when we get overwhelmed  by big-time troubles.     We have no control  over these things  in life.     But,  God knows  our every struggle  and our need for help.     King David  wrote  in Psalm 142:3,

When my spirit  was overwhelmed  within me,
Thou didst know my path,
In the way  where I walk
They have hidden  a trap  for me.

David’s persecutors  were stronger than he,  and they were out to get him.     When he was overwhelmed,  he cried out  to God  for help,  and remembered  that God  was fully aware  of his  “path”.     God knew  that David was innocent.     God was aware  of David’s problem  even before David  was aware of it.     So, David knew he could  go  to God  for refuge.

God intimately knows everything  we’ve done throughout  our lives.     He knows  when we turn to Him — and wants us  to turn to Him.     God wants us  to walk  on His path  to eternal life,  through faith  in what Jesus has done  for us.     Let us use God’s word  to light up our path  through this troublesome world.

In the light  of God’s word,  we say,  “Hallelujah!    LORD,  Your ways  are so very good.     Keep us grounded  in the truths and light  of Your word.”

Love,
Margaret

Not that I have already obtained it,  or have already  become perfect,  but I press on  in order that  I may  lay hold  of that for which also  I was laid hold of  by Christ Jesus.
