The Witness That God Has Borne Concerning His Son
The Witness That God Has Borne Concerning His Son
If one has ever served on a jury, they’ve seen that not everyone’s testimony can be trusted. Jurors will note that some witnesses can contradict given evidence or even themselves, have had a rather shady past, have ulterior motives, and might appear tense and shifty-eyed when asked certain questions. All of these things affect their believability.
God has given a witness concerning His Son, Christ Jesus. God’s witness spans thousands of years of time. God’s witness is all the evidence collected throughout history. No other religious belief system has ever been able to do what God has done. That is why 1 John 5:10-12 is able to boldly say,
The one who believes in the Son of God has the witness in himself; the one who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed in the witness that God has borne concerning His Son.
And the witness is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life.
John is saying that those who believe in Jesus assuredly know, down in their hearts, that God’s salvation through Christ is true and according to all that God has said in all His word. They believe in Christ as their Savior because of “the witness that God has born concerning His Son.” So, they have examined God’s word in the Bible and that has led them to believe.
That witness is the long list of prophecies made all throughout the Old Testament about what the Savior would be like. All those prophecies came true in the one man, Jesus Christ. No other religious belief system has ever been able to make so many prophecies come true in the life of one man. In other words, other religions have no substance to base their beliefs on.
But, throughout the Old and New Testaments, God has witnessed that the man who fulfilled all the given details in His life would truly be the Savior — and that one-and-only Savior would give all who believe in Him eternal life as He forgives all their sins. All those who believe in Jesus as their Savior surely will have life. Sadly, those who refuse to believe God’s proven witness about this Savior definitely do not have eternal life. Refusing to believe all that evidence is paramount to calling God Almighty a liar.
Note that it is God who has given us “the witness”. That is why we must check out God’s witness, which is the whole Bible. Throughout the Bible we are warned about false preachers, who will twist God’s word, add traditions to it, and take away important truths God has taught us. They are false witnesses. In order to know the truth, we must examine the truth God has set before us.
As God teaches us in His word, we say, “Hallelujah! LORD, Your word is almighty in teaching us Your truths. Thank You for condescending to save us through the blood of Christ — and for proving Your trustworthiness.”
Love,
Margaret
