Do Not Grieve the Holy Spirit

Do Not Grieve the Holy Spirit
It’s so easy to get wrapped up in our own feelings, desires, and thoughts. But, when that is in excess, we very well could be working against God and His desire for our eternal salvation. When we consistently put our own desires before the needs of those around us, we are hurting them — and not loving others as God has loved us in Christ Jesus.
That is when we “grieve the Holy Spirit”. Because we all are definitely sinners in constant need of disciplining ourselves, we need to consider what Paul wrote in Ephesians 4:30-32,
And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. And be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you.
That says it. We have good reason to control how we treat others — “just as God in Christ also has forgiven you.” That’s all the reason we should need. God has loved us with a love that is far beyond human description. It is a constant, faithful love that has forgiven us when we’ve fallen — supported us in our weaknesses — comforted us in our hurts — blessed us, even when we don’t deserve it — and suffered for us in Christ Jesus, just so we could be saved eternally.
Because God has done all that for us, and much more, we definitely should not stubbornly “grieve the Holy Spirit of God.” God is always seeking to help us to grow in faith, hope, and love. When we always keep His love in mind, we will be better enabled to “be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you.”
Because of God’s love, we should be very careful to not allow any bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, slander, or malice get the better of us. It will always be a huge temptation because of the way the people of this world love to act towards us. But, God’s children don’t need to cave in to these sorts of uncontrolled behaviors. Why? Because our Lord will work all things out for us in the end — as we put our trust in Him.
We might have to endure all sorts of temptations to go back to the ways of this world, but all of that will “grieve the Holy Spirit”. We really need to constantly keep in mind God’s love and forgiveness for us.
Ever thankful for God’s faithful, forgiving love, we say, “Hallelujah! Lord, Your love gives worth to all we need to endure.”
Love,
Margaret

Not that I have already obtained it, or have already become perfect, but I press on in order that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus.
