YOU Are the Light

YOU  Are the Light

We are all sinners.     There’s no doubt  about that.     But,  that’s not  a good reason  to stubbornly  cling to our sinful natures.     Some people  want  to make out  like a Christian — and also,  stay intimately connected  to this world,  by living  in sin.     It doesn’t matter  what pet sin  they willfully  practice — sin is sin.     All sin  is equally condemned  by God Almighty.

Sin is pictured as  “darkness”  in this world.     When the Bible talks  about people  being stuck  in their sins,  it often says  that they are living  in  “darkness”.    As they stumble  and grope around  in the “darkness”  of their sin,  they experience the pains,  fears,  and sadness  of living  in sin.     They might want  a better life,  but feel it is impossible  to find their way out  of their darkness.

Then came the  “Light  of the world” — Christ Jesus Himself.     Through His life,  suffering,  death,  and resurrection,  He has proven,  far beyond a doubt,  that He truly has  the power  to forgive  all our sins  and freely grant us  eternal life  in heaven.     That news  is the gospel — the good news  we long  to receive — “the light”  we need  to get out  of the darkness  of our sin.

When the true  “light”  of Jesus’ forgiveness  and redemption  comes  into our lives,  we brighten up  with hope.     We learn  that we are loved  by our Creator  and LORD.     With that forgiveness,  hope,  and love,  we learn  to have faith,  hope,  and love  in our lives.     That makes us  a “light”  to the people around us.     Then people are able  to see  that we are different  from the people  in darkness,  who practice lying,  cheating,  slandering,  blaspheming,  idolatry,  cultisms,  and things  of that sort.

As each day  goes by  and we acknowledge  God’s love,  we start living  more like Jesus lived.     For that reason,  Jesus taught  in Matthew 5:14-16,

YOU  are the light  of the world.     A city set  on a hill  cannot be hidden.     Nor do men  light a lamp,  and put it under the peckmeasure,  but on the lampstand;  and it gives light  to all  who are  in the house.

Let YOUR light shine  before men  in such a way  that they  may see your good works,  and glorify  your Father  who is in heaven.

Let us examine our lives.     As saved children  of God,  Jesus said,  YOU  are the light  of the world.”     Our faith,  hope,  and love  simply cannot  be hidden.     If it is for real,  it will show  to everyone around us — no matter what  sort of situation  we live in.     The faith and love  in our hearts  will enlighten those around us  in some way  or another  and show them  the love and salvation  of God Almighty  in Christ.

Jesus wants  our “light” — our changed lives — to produce  good works  that will honestly  “glorify your Father  who is  in heaven.”     Jesus wants our  “light”  to give “light”  to those around us,  so they also  can realize  the love  and forgiveness  of our Savior — and become  “lights” themselves.     Is that happening?

Living  in the “Light”  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord Jesus,  thank You  for lighting up  our lives  with Your love and forgiveness.     Help us  to really shine.”

Love,
Margaret

Not that I have already obtained it,  or have already  become perfect, but I press on  in order that  I may  lay hold  of that for which also  I was laid hold of  by Christ Jesus.
