He Who Is Faithful in a Very Little Thing Is Faithful Also in Much

He  Who Is Faithful  in a Very Little Thing  Is Faithful Also  in Much

We all have different talents  from God  that help us  to serve those  around us.     We don’t have to be  the head  of a large corporation  to be important  and useful  in God’s eyes.     Whether  we are  a housewife,  a waitress,  mechanic,  airplane pilot,  student,  farmer,  truck driver,  or work  in an assembly line,  our talents  are to be used  to God’s glory.

Some might glumly shrug their shoulders  in disbelief.     But, they are not looking  at the truths  of God.     Paul talks about this  in Romans 12:6,

And since we have gifts  that differ  according  to the grace given  to us,  let each exercise them  accordingly…

To the Corinthians,  Paul spoke about  how all our talents  work together  to benefit everyone  around us.     We fit together like a body,  in which all the parts are necessary  to serve the rest  of the body — whether we are feet,  eyes,  ears,  hands,  or even the little toe —  every part serves  the rest  of the body.     Paul expressed  everyone’s importance  by saying in 1 Corinthians 12:18,

But now God  has placed  the members,  each one  of them,  in the body,  just as He desired….

In other words,  God has given us  the talents He wants us  to have.     It is God’s wisdom  that distributes talents  according to His wisdom  and knowledge.     God knows the functions  He wants us  to serve  in our lives.

So,  we all have God-given talents — but — are we using them  to God’s glory?

In Luke 16,  Jesus tells the parable  about the steward  who was squandering  his master’s possessions.     The steward was wasting  his master’s possessions.     That would be like us today  wasting  all the gifts  God has put  in our care.     As good stewards,  we’re supposed to be gladly  and diligently  using God’s gifts  to glorify  and benefit God.      We’re supposed  to be profitable  with the gifts  God has given us.

Jesus pointed out  a sad truth  about the squandering steward,  in Luke 16:10-11.     He said,

He  who is faithful  in a very little thing  is faithful also  in much;  and he who is unrighteous  in a very little thing  is unrighteous also  in much.     If therefore  you have not been faithful  in the use  of unrighteous mammon,  who will entrust  the true riches  to you?

If God  can’t trust us  on earth  to faithfully use  the  “very little thing”  He has given us  here,  He won’t want  to  “entrust the true riches”  to us  in heaven.     We need  to be  good stewards now,  to show  that we will be faithful  and trustworthy stewards  in eternity.     The bottom line is that  it is our love  and faithfulness  to God,  our Master,  that makes  the difference  in our feelings  about using our gifts.

God is not asking,  or demanding,  that we become multi-millionaires  in using the gifts  He has given.     That is not His purpose.     He just wants us to faithfully use  the gifts He has given us  to benefit  those around us.

In the joy  of serving God’s purpose  for us  with our special talents,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord,  thank You  for considering  our little part  of service  to be important  in Your holy eyes.”

Love, Margaret
