An Angel  of Light

People feel better,  and more in control  of their lives  if they think  they have a right knowledge  and understanding  of what’s going on  around them.     They don’t want  to be in the dark  about anything going on.     They take comfort  in feeling enlightened.

But,  enlightened is  as enlightened does.

Many imagine that they are “in the know”  as they live blatant lives  of sin.     They live  in pride,  arrogance,  lovelessness,  faithlessness,  godlessness,  false doctrines,  worldly philosophies  —  and yet,  think  that they are doing very well  in life,  “Thank you”.     They have no intention  of trading  any of their pet sins in  for a life of truth,  repentance,  forgiveness,  and faith.

In all their confidence,  they are clueless  that their “enlightenment”  is really  dire darkness.     They have been bamboozled  into sin  and faithlessness  and don’t even know it.     They feel  that the false preachers,  who have so influenced them,  seem like really nice,  trustworthy people.

But, when Paul warns us  about all sorts  of false preachers,  he wrote in 2 Corinthians 11:13-15,

For such men  are false apostles,  deceitful workers,  disguising themselves  as apostles  of Christ.     And no wonder,  for even Satan disguises himself  as an angel  of light.

Therefore  it is not surprising  if his servants also  disguise themselves  as servants  of righteousness;  whose end  shall be  according to  their deeds.

Satan does not tell us  that he is feeding us lies.     We have to be wary  of every doctrine  we hear  and check it out  in God’s word.     We need to be proactive  in staying firmly  in the actual truths  of God.     Our eternal lives depend  on it.     Of course,  all false preachers  make themselves appear  as  “an angel  of light”.     But,  what they teach  makes people trust  in their own selves,  instead of Christ  our Savior.     That’s a huge difference.

Those good works,  rituals,  traditions,  and doctrines  that don’t give God  all the glory  are all false teachings  of darkness.     Jesus also taught us  to be very careful  of what we consider  “light”  and  “dark”.     Jesus says  to us  in Luke 11:34-36,

The lamp  of your body  is your eye;  when your eye is clear,  your whole body also  is full  of light;  but when it is bad,  your body also  is full  of darkness.     Then watch out  that the light  in you  may not be darkness.

If therefore  your whole body  is full of light,  with no dark part  in it,  it shall be wholly illumined,  as when  the lamp illumines you  with its rays.

We need  to value  the importance  of living  in God’s truths,  so our entire lives  will truly  be enlightened.     If we choose  to be satisfied  with false doctrines,  our lives will  be darkened  and we will be living  in the sins  of rejecting God’s truths.     When we live  in God’s truths  of salvation  through faith  in Christ Jesus alone,  our whole lives  will be enlightened  with the marvels  of God’s wondrous love  and forgiveness.

It’s more than worth it  to live  in the truth  only.

In the glory  of God’s  forgiving love,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord Jesus,  You alone  are the Light  of this dark world.     Keep us  in Your light  that we may live  with You  forever.”

Love,
Margaret
