He Keeps  the Feet  of His Godly Ones

The going  can get pretty rough  for Christians  in this world.     It seems  like most  of the people around us  have already caved in  to living  by worldly standards — the acceptance  of a woman  to abort her child — the acceptance  of the homosexual life style and gay marriage — living in adultery — claiming the theory of evolution as a scientific fact — feeling it is okay  to take advantage  of poorer people  to gain more riches — lying and stealing — accepting heathen forms  of worship  as being okay for Christians — etc.

It seems  that if a person  longs for friends,  they’ve just got  to join  the crowd  and blend in.     You can’t get anywhere  in this world without friends — right?     Wrong.

The true Friend  everyone needs  is Christ Jesus,  our LORD and King.     If Jesus  is honestly  our Friend,  we don’t have  to desire friendship  with this world.     We don’t have to  become a blatant sinner  in order to have a “friend”.      As our real  and true Friend,  Jesus will lovingly lead us  in the right way  to His glory.     He will keep us safe  from those who wish  to corrupt us,  and rob us  of faith  and eternal life.

In the Old Testament,  Hannah,  the mother  of the prophet Samuel,  realized  the protection  she had  when abiding  in the Lord.     After God granted her prayer  for a child,  she dedicated Samuel  to the service  of the LORD.     In presenting Samuel  to the LORD,  Hannah prayed.     In her prayer,  in 1 Samuel 2:9-10  she said,

He keeps the feet  of His godly ones,
But the wicked ones are silenced  in darkness;
For not by might  shall a man prevail.
Those who contend  with the LORD  will be shattered;
Against them  He will thunder  in the heavens,
The LORD  will judge  the ends  of the earth;
And He will give strength  to His king,
And will exalt the horn  of His anointed.

Hannah is praising God  for keeping her safely  in His care  and guidance — as she is trusting  and depending upon Him.     Her rival  had made fun  of her for years  because she had no child.     That was so hard  for Hannah  to endure.     Through it all,  God kept her  from sinning — and Hannah  is so appreciative  of that.     That is why Hannah confessed,  “He keeps the feet  of His godly ones.”

In the same breath,  she realizes,  “but the wicked ones  are silenced  in darkness.”     It is so evil  to deliberately pick  on someone  facing a personal sorrow.     It was God  who granted  Hannah  a son — in spite of her rival’s tauntings.     The rival was not victorious in the end — “For not by might  shall a man prevail.”     Hannah had no  “might”  in her situation.     She was totally dependent  upon the LORD.

Whatever sorts  of troubles  we may have,  let us totally depend  on the LORD  to care for us  according to His love and wisdom.     Then,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for knowing how  to keep us  from sinning  as we face our challenges.”

Love,
Margaret

Not that I have already obtained it,  or have already  become perfect, but I press on  in order that  I may  lay hold  of that for which also  I was laid hold of  by Christ Jesus.
