Until  the Day Dawns  and  the Morning Star  Arises

“Eureka!!!     I finally  got it!     Now,  I understand!”

That’s what  our hearts  and minds  will exclaim  when we  finally discover  the awesome treasures   of all those Old Testament prophecies  about salvation  through faith  in Christ Jesus alone.

Before anyone realizes  the importance  of Jesus  being the fulfillment  of so many Old Testament prophecies,  Jesus is just a  “story”  for kids.     He’s just a guy  who died  on a cross  and was supposedly  a worker  of miracles  and all that stuff.     But,  one figures  this “Savior”  bit has no real meaning  or relevance  to everyday lives  and troubles.     It’s just  another “religious,  mystical thing”  that simple people hold onto.     We cannot fathom  Jesus being  anything  of honest importance  for the sophisticated people  of today.

But,  the apostle Peter  tells us  to wise up  and pay attention  to a whole bunch  of undeniable details  before being so arrogant  as  to write off Jesus  as unimportant  and of no relevance  to our lives.     As smart  and sophisticated  as we might imagine ourselves  to be,  we are weak,  unwise,  unknowledgeable,  and surely going  to die  some day — just because  we are created beings.     We don’t have  any sort  of power  to create  the things  that make up  the universe.     We are never  wise enough  to always make  the right decisions.     We don’t know  the details  of what will happen  to us tomorrow — let alone ten years from now.     And,  we are  unable  to keep ourselves alive  longer than our allotted time.

Admitting  to the truths  of what our lives  really are  and facing the facts  of life,  we need  to consider Peter’s  advice in 2 Peter 1:19,

We have the prophetic word  made more sure,  to which  you do well  to pay attention  as to a lamp shining  in a dark place,  until the day dawns  and the morning star  arises  in your hearts.

In all our uncertainties,  we need  “to pay attention”  to  “the prophetic word  made more sure”.      Those words  of the Old Testament prophets were  “made more sure”  by the fact  that they were all  fulfilled  when Jesus was born,  suffered,  died,  and rose again  as our eternal King  and Savior.     Which one  of us  can fulfill  a whole bunch  of prophecies  by the coming  of one person  hundreds and thousands  of years  after the prophecy  was made?

Common sense  shows us  that none of us  is able  to keep  all of our promises — let alone,  keep promises  like the LORD God made and kept  in Christ Jesus.

The bottom line is  that we need  to study  the Old Testament,  as well as  the New Testament  until we realize  the awesome wonders  of God’s faithfulness,  love,  and plan  of salvation  through faith  in Jesus — until we have  that “Eureka!”  moment,  and realize  that this salvation  can be ours  through faith.     This treasure  is sitting right  in front  of us,  and we need  “to pay attention”  to what it means  in our lives.     Keep on  paying attention  “until the day dawns  and the morning star  arises  in your hearts.”

In the amazing joy  of a real salvation,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  I got it!     We have real,  full forgiveness  through faith  in Jesus!     Thank You!”

Love,
Margaret

Not that I have already obtained it,  or have already  become perfect, but I press on  in order that  I may  lay hold  of that for which also  I was laid hold of  by Christ Jesus.
