Recognize  That He Is Near,  Right At the Door

Jesus taught  a lot  about the signs  of the end days.     People often wonder  when the end  of this world  will come,  but Jesus has already told us  that it will be a surprise  for everyone  —  even though  we’ve been given  all kinds  of signs  to watch for.     Jesus told us  to watch out  for all sorts  of false prophets  in the end days.     We are  to realize  that the hearts  of the people  will be cold.     We know  that people will be belligerently living  in all sorts  of sin  and mocking God  because they imagine  they are getting away  with their sins  —  and that sins  don’t matter.

This kinda sounds  like today.     But then,  people have been  saying that  for two thousand years,  so we still  don’t have a clue  about the timing  of our impending  judgment day.

Knowing  that we don’t  know anything,  Jesus nevertheless  tells us  in Matthew 24:32-35,

Now learn  the parable  from the fig tree:  when its branch  has already become tender,  and puts forth its leaves,  you know that summer  is near;  even so you too,  when you see all these things,  recognize  that He is near,  right  at the door.

Truly I say  to you,  this generation  will not pass away  until all these things take place.     Heaven  and earth  will pass away,  but My words  shall not pass away.

The whole point  is to always  be ready  for the Lord’s coming.     We don’t have  to know  a specific day  and time.     If our faith  and love  for our Lord is real,  we will always want  to be living  as God’s children  should be living.     God’s children  don’t want  to be misbehaving  at any time  —  rather,  they take joy  in always being pleasing  in God’s sight.     The love  of God guides  their living.

God’s children  take joy  in pleasing God  because they assuredly know  that everything  God desires  in our lives  is good  and beautiful,  right  and true.     So, they are happy  to remember  Jesus’ promise,  “Heaven and earth  will pass away,  but My words  shall not pass away.”     We can trust  our Lord  to do everything rightly,  with the utmost wisdom  and love.

Comfortable  in our Savior’s  faithful love,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord Jesus,  Your promises  are sure  and trustworthy.”

Love,
Margaret

Not that I have already obtained it,  or have already  become perfect, but I press on  in order that  I may  lay hold  of that for which also  I was laid hold of  by Christ Jesus.
