We Are to Grow Up in All Aspects into Him

We Are  to Grow Up  in All Aspects  into Him

We had  a little doggie,  a toy poodle —  Emily  —  who passed away  this last January.     Emily was taught  many wonderful things.     She could come,  stay,  sit,   lay down,   jump through the hoops,  go get the ball,  get yellow dog,  get teddy bear,  get yellow ball,  get spiny ball,  bang  (to play dead dog),  get Daddy’s shoes,  get Daddy’s jacket,  get Daddy’s cap,  pass written notes  between Daddy and Mommy,   etc.,  etc.,  etc.  —  EXCEPT —  when  we wanted her  to perform  for company.     Then,  she would play dumb.     “Huh?     What am I supposed  to do?     Really?     Why?”   — and all that sort  of stuff.

That is just  like us.     We know  —  without a doubt  —  EXACTLY  what our  heavenly Father,  LORD God Almighty,  would like us  to do.     And  —  we can usually do it  IF  and WHEN  we want  to do it.     But,  so much  of the time,  being a faithful Christian  in the public arena  brings on  a sudden mental block  of fears,  stubbornness,  and who knows what else,  that makes us  stop living  as a child   of God  should live.     It could possibly be  just plain ol’ arrogance  and wanting  to show  our superiority  (as if we really have  any superiority  over God Almighty  —  our heavenly Father).

A dog  has an owner,  who has the job  and responsibility  of directing  and watching over  his critter,  as he feeds  and cares for his critter  in the very best way possible.     God Almighty  certainly does  have the right  and responsibility  to rule  over us human beings  —  much more  than we care  to admit  — because He created us,  loves us  and truly knows  what is best  for us  to the umpteenth degree.

As created beings  under the care  of the LORD God Almighty,  we need  to be thankful  for God’s loving care  and respond  with loving obedience  to all God’s directions  for living  in the best way possible.     Instead  of rebelliously acting like immature,  spoiled brats,  it is  in our best interests  to live according to Ephesians 4:15,

But speaking the truth  in love,  we are  to grow up  in all aspects  into Him,  who is the head,  even Christ.

So,  how are we  to  “grow up  in all aspects  into Him”?     1 Peter 2:2  gives us directions  for that,

Like newborn babes,  long for the pure milk  of the word,  that by it  you may grow  in respect  to salvation.

Peter  wants us  to really want  to study  the word  of God,  because that is the way  we can best learn  about the “salvation”  God gives us  through faith  in Christ Jesus.     Peter adds  to this truth  in 2 Peter 3:18  by saying,

Grow in the grace  and knowledge  of our Lord  and Savior  Jesus Christ.

We need  to want   “to grow up  in all aspects  into Him”.     We should  not want  to be immature,  rebellious kids  all our lives.     Life is better when we  “grow up  in all aspects  into Him”.

Then,  in the joy  of living  in the love  of God,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for willingly  and patiently  teaching us.”

Love,
Margaret
