The Witness  That God  Has Borne  Concerning His Son

We talk  about needing proof  that has withstood  the test  of time.     We might even claim  that if something  has withstood  the test of time  we will believe it  and trust it.     The prophecies  about  the Savior  actually did withstand  the test  of time  —  yet many  still refuse  to trust  in Jesus  as their Savior.     Over thousands  of years  prophecies  were recorded  and kept  regarding  our Savior  from sin.     All those prophecies are recorded throughout the Old Testament  by many different prophets.     Each one gave a specific detail  about the Savior.

And then,  all of those many different prophecies  came true  in the one man,  Jesus Christ.     That  is God’s witness  to us.

That kind  of multiple witnesses  over thousands  of years  is absolutely impossible  for any mere man  to make.     One prophet said  the Savior would be born  in Bethlehem  —  another said  they would cast lots  for His clothes  —  another said  he would be called a Nazarene  —  another said  he would be given vinegar and gall  —  another said  he would be a prophet  like Moses.     The list could go on.

The point is  that it is absolutely impossible  for different men  over thousands  of years  to cause  all these various prophecies  to come true.     We can’t even make it rain  when we want it.     Jesus taught us  in Matthew 19:26,

With men  this is impossible,  but with God  all things  are possible.

When the angel announced  to Mary  that she would bear  the Son  of God  and that Elizabeth  would bear  John the Baptist,  he said  in Luke 1:37,

For nothing  will be impossible  with God.

We think  about that,  and then consider 1 John 5:9-12,

If we receive  the witness  of men,  the witness  of God is greater;  for the witness  of God is this,  that He has borne witness concerning  His Son.     The one  who believes  in the Son  of God  has the witness  in himself;  the one  who does not believe God  has made Him  a liar,  because  he has not believed  in the witness  that God has borne  concerning His Son.

And the witness is this,  that God has given us  eternal life,  and this life is  in His Son.

God’s witness  is greater  than any man’s witness  because  it has withstood the test  of time  and proven itself  to be true  beyond the shadow  of a doubt.

So,  will we hold true  to our claim  to be honest,  fair,  good,  and upright people,  who will not deny  a proven truth?     The historical facts  regarding the written  word  of God  have proven  that the Bible  is true.     Jesus really  is our Savior.     He truly does have  the power  to wash away  all our sins  and bring us  into a close,  eternal fellowship  with God.

We need  to pay attention to  “the witness of God”  in the Bible  because  “the witness  of God is greater”  than any  “witness  of men”.

In the joy  of God’s witness  to us today,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for the assurance  You give  in Your word.”

Love,
Margaret
