This  I Recall  to My Mind

The prophet Jeremiah went  through really rough times.     He was so troubled  over the sins  of Judah —  and he suffered greatly  as he felt God  had abandoned him.     He felt  so alone  as he was rejected  by his neighbors,  family,  false priests  and prophets,  friends,  and the people of Judah,  whom he was wanting to save  from God’s wrath.     There were times  when he felt God  was not listening  to his heartfelt prayers.

But,  in spite of so many downers,  Jeremiah wrote in Lamentations 3:21-26,

This  I recall  to my mind,
Therefore  I have hope.
The LORD’s lovingkindnesses  indeed  never cease,
For His compassions  never fail.
They are new  every morning;
Great  is Thy faithfulness.
“The LORD  is my portion,”  says my soul,
“Therefore  I have hope  in Him.”
The LORD  is good  to those  who wait  for Him,
To the person  who seeks Him.
It is good  that he waits silently
For the salvation  of the LORD.

The LORD  our God  has not changed.     In all our troubles,  we can  and should  still put our hope  in the LORD’s  “lovingkindnesses”  that  “never cease”.     Whenever  we feel terribly afflicted  by all  that happens  in this life,  we need to  “recall  to my mind”  the  “faithfulness”  of the LORD  in all sorts  of situations.     He will carry us day-by-day.

As we read God’s word,  we discover  just how difficult life was  for all God’s prophets  and faithful people.     Life was always difficult  for Jesus,  our Savior,  also.     “Recall”  how all  of these   faced rejection  from the people around them.     “Recall”  how they all  refused to give up their faith  because they remembered  our Lord’s  “faithfulness”.     “Recall” how they remembered  that the LORD  would be their  “portion”.     They knew  beyond the shadow of a doubt  that God was their  “salvation”  in the end.

The end result  is why  “It is good  that he waits silently  for the salvation  of the LORD.”     In His own time  and in His own way  God will bring us through  this life.     As we live  according  to God’s ways,  we can trust  in His power,  authority,  and everlasting love  towards all  who put their faith  in Him.

In hope and assurance,  we look  to our Savior,  and say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord Jesus,  You are the one-and-only Savior forever.     Nothing will ever change that.     Thank You for teaching us  to seek You only  and wait for Your promises.”

Love,
Margaret
