It Is These  That Bear Witness  of Me

Nobody wants  to be fooled  or conned  into something.     If one does get  fooled  or conned  it can be more than  just embarrassing  —  it could be something disastrous  —  something that robs us  of our livelihood  —  or gets us  into deep trouble.     So,  it’s a good thing  to be cautious  and check things out  —  especially  if they seem  “too good  to be true”.

To all those  who question  Jesus’ authenticity  as the forgiver  of all our sins  and the door  to eternal life  in heaven  —  just through faith  —  there is a way  to check Jesus out.     Just because  there are  so many  con artists  of every sort  in this world,  we do need  to verify  that Jesus spoke  the truth  in all  of His preaching.

Jesus actually  told us how  to check Him out  and verify  His credentials.     Jesus told the people  in John 5:39,

You search  the Scriptures  because you think  that in them  you have eternal life;  and it is these  that bear witness  of Me.

The people  whom Jesus  was talking to  wanted proof  of His authenticity.     But,  they were not  honestly checking out  and considering  what all  of the Old Testament Scriptures said.     Much  of the Old Testament  tells  of the Savior’s coming  —  His ancestry  —  where He would be born  —  where He would live  —  what His preaching would be like  —  what He had the power  to do  —  and many details  about His death  and resurrection.     In other words,  it is true  —  “it is these  that bear witness  of Me.”

Because Jesus points us all  in the right direction,  we should pay attention  to what the Old Testament  says  about the Savior  —  realizing  that those books  were written  over thousands  of years,  by all sorts  of prophets.     It is  in putting  all their prophecies together  that we can see  for sure  that they  “bear witness”  of Jesus  as the one-and-only  true Savior.     Absolutely no one else  has ever had  so many  ancient prophecies  that have come true  about them.

It is  in the wonderment  of something  so impossible  that has proven itself  to be possible  through the power  of God’s word  that we have a great appreciation  of David’s  Psalm 19:7-11,

The law  of the LORD  is perfect,  restoring the soul;
The testimony  of the LORD  is sure,  making wise the simple.
The precepts  of the LORD  are right,  rejoicing the heart;
The commandment  of the LORD is pure,  enlightening the eyes.
The fear  of the LORD  is clean,  enduring forever;
The judgments  of the LORD  are true;  they are righteous  altogether.
They are more desirable  than gold,  yes,  than much fine gold;
Sweeter  also  than honey  and the drippings  of the honeycomb.
Moreover,  by them  Thy servant  is warned;
In keeping them  there is great  reward.

David loved  all  of God’s word  because it pointed  to the Savior.     We need  to do  as David did.     Study God’s word.     Let it make  “wise the simple” (That’s us.).    Let it  rejoice  our hearts.     Discover  its riches.     Appreciate its warnings.     Look to God’s reward.     Then say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for lovingly proving Yourself.”

Love,
Margaret
