The Righteous  Made Perfect

Hebrews,  chapter 12  lists a bunch  of the wonders  we will see  when we get  to heaven.     Amongst them,  in Hebrews 12:23  is listed,

…….the righteous  made perfect…….

We will get  to see  all the righteous  who have been  made perfect.     So,  some self-righteous people  might proudly exclaim,  “Aha!     See?     We do have  to work  our way  into heaven,  so I now know  that I’m good enough  for heaven  because of all my good works!     I’m better than so-and-so because I’ve done more  than him.”     The one  who realizes  his sinful nature  and knows  he’ll never  be able  to be really  righteous  on his own efforts  might  be saddened  and feel  unworthy  —  after all,  it does say,  the righteous  made perfect”.

This passage needs  to be understood  along with  all the other verses  throughout the Bible  that talk  about righteousness.      Just a few verses  could include:

“Then  he believed  in the LORD;  and He reckoned it  to him  as righteousness.”       Genesis 15:6

“I do not nullify  the grace  of God;  for  if righteousness comes  through the Law,  then Christ died needlessly.”       Galatians 2:21

“Now that no one  is justified  by the Law  before God  is evident;  for,  ‘The righteous man  shall live  by faith.'”       Galatians 3:11

Seeing these together,  we see  the truth  that it  truly is  believing  in the LORD  that makes us  “righteous”.     We need  to realize  that God  is gracious  to us  when we believe  in His promises.     It is  when we believe  that God Almighty  justifies us  and makes us  absolutely  “perfect”  in His sight.     Believing  God’s promises  is the same  as saying  God is holy,  faithful,  almighty,  trustworthy,  good,  loving,  gracious,  and everything else  that is awesomely good.     Believing is trusting  and loving God.     This beautiful believing  is not filled with fear and doubt.     Believing in God  means that we know  we are dependent  upon Him  —  our Creator,  Sustainer,  and Redeemer.

So,  when we get  to heaven  and see all  “the righteous  made perfect”,  we will be seeing  all those  who  sincerely believed  the promises  of God,  and were then “reckoned”  to be  “righteous”  in God’s sight  for all eternity.     We’re going  to see faith  that glorifies God  all over the place.     And,  it will be so wonderful  to be amongst  all those  who are truly loving  and honoring God  —  as is good and right.     That will be a joyful,  most awesome peace.

And,  wonder of wonders  —  none  of the proud,  self-righteous  will be there  boasting all over the place  about their own ability  to be righteous.     There will only be those  who believe  in God’s promises  about  being saved  through faith  in Jesus.

This believing  —  this faith  —  worked  in the hearts  of God’s children  and led them  to honor God  with their whole lives  —  to praise God  for His salvation  in Christ Jesus  —   to live  in fellowship  with our LORD.

Knowing God’s sheer goodness  and grace,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for making us perfect  in Christ Jesus.”

Love,
Margaret
