A Senseless Man Has No Knowledge
When we think about all that has happened throughout history, and how all of the LORD’s prophecies have been and are being fulfilled, it’s more than a mighty wonder. God controlled history for thousands of years in bringing to us the Savior He promised. That is unimaginable power, far beyond any human capability. And, if we really take the time to consider how God made so many details come true, we shouldn’t have a shred of doubt about God’s control.
If we’re thinking at all, God’s almighty power should make us have a deep respect for His power in our lives — and His authority as our eternal Judge. When a psalmist considered so many aspects of God’s power, his respect led him to write in Psalm 92:5-9,
How great are Your works, O LORD!
Your thoughts are very deep.
A senseless man has no knowledge;
Nor does a stupid man understand this:
That when the wicked sprouted up like grass,
And all who did iniquity flourished,
It was only that they might be destroyed forevermore.
But You, O LORD, are on high forever.
For, behold, Your enemies, O LORD,
For, behold, Your enemies will perish;
All who do iniquity will be scattered.
This psalmist could see and realize that all those who had no respect for God were “senseless”, “stupid”, and “wicked”. Nothing they do is ever really worthwhile. Actually, it is to their eternal detriment and demise. Their evil, rebellious ways show that they are “senseless” in realizing who God really is and the judgmental power God has over all His creation. They are even “senseless” in despising God’s love and gift of salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
Somehow, with their few earthly, supposed rewards, they imagine that they are getting away with their wickedness. They will even imagine that God either does not exist or does not care what they do. That sort of imagination is “stupid” and “wicked” because there is evidence of God’s power all around us in all of creation — and in so many fulfilled prophecies about our Savior.
God’s children despair as they see the wicked flourishing in their wickedness. It just seems like the wicked are always the winners, having victory over everything that is good and right. But, in reality, that is only the way it seems. The eternal truth is that “It was only that they might be destroyed forevermore.”
God’s judgment is not really slow in coming. Actually, God’s timing is always right — even though His children are suffering all sorts of trials under the influence of the wicked. The end result is that God’s children will be strengthened in the true faith, hope, and love — and all the wicked will “be destroyed forevermore”.
As we keep looking to God’s saving power and love, we give Him thanks and praise — for He does all things well. And, we say, “Hallelujah! LORD, thank You for refreshing us in Your word and grace.”
Love,
Margaret
