A Tested Stone

A Tested Stone

We supposedly  check  so many things out  for value,  durability,  and trustworthiness,  before actually getting them  or dealing with them.     We test out cars,  schools,  politicians,  TVs,  computers,  houses,  pots and pans,  religions,  etc., etc.     But,  there are things  in which our  “checking”  is a very sloppy process  —  untrustworthy within itself.

Sloppiness  is not the way  in which the LORD God Almighty  has shown us  His trustworthiness  and enduring faithfulness  for  our salvation.     When we  honestly check out  God’s credentials,  it is impossible  to find  even one flaw.     God has shown us  through historical evidence  that He keeps His word impeccably.      God has not  left out any  of the details  of His prophecies  of what our Savior  would be like.     That’s pure assurance  —  and relief.

To explain  to us  700 years  before granting us  our Savior,  God assuredly promised  in Isaiah 28:16,

Therefore  thus says  the Lord GOD,
Behold,  I am laying  in Zion  a stone,  a tested stone,
A costly cornerstone  for the foundation,  firmly placed.
He who believes  in it  will not be disturbed.

Now,  that’s a promise.     When we truly believe  in Christ Jesus,  our  “costly cornerstone”  —  our  “tested stone”  —  we will  “not be disturbed”.     Kingdoms will fall.     There will be  disgusting   and gross wickedness  all around us.     Unbelievers  will mock Jesus   up to the hilt  —  and cults  of various sorts  will twist God’s word  into some sort  of work righteousness.     But,  through all  this disgusting denial  of our LORD’s power  and love,  we will rest  in His eternal love  and salvation  —  our  “tested stone”.

That’s God’s power  working in us  —  showing us His tested stone,  a costly cornerstone  for the foundation,  firmly placed.”      In God’s word  we can see  and understand  how God Almighty  has  through history  laid this “costly cornerstone”  for the strengthening  of all  who believe  in Christ Jesus.

Even though  we may feel  weak,  weary,  and worn,  with all the assaults  against our faith  in Christ Jesus,   2 Timothy 2:19  assures us,

Nevertheless,  the firm foundation  of God  stands,  having this seal,  “The Lord knows  those  who are His,”  and,  “Let every one who names  the name  of the Lord  abstain  from wickedness.”

The love  and faith  we have  in Christ Jesus  is our  “firm foundation  of God”,  which stands forever.

Clinging  to our  “tested stone”,  we thankfully say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  we are so glad  that You have given us  your tested word  to hang onto.”

Love,
Margaret

Not that I have already obtained it,  or have already  become perfect, but I press on  in order that  I may  lay hold  of that for which also  I was laid hold of  by Christ Jesus.
