Although  He Existed  in the Form  of God

There are many  who do not respect Jesus  for who He really is.     They might imagine  that He was just some sort of  nutty kook  — just an ordinary,  good,  well-intentioned man —  or a philosopher of sorts.     But,  they don’t acknowledge Him  as truly God Almighty,  come down  to save us  from our sins.

Philippians 2:5-11  sets the record straight,  if we want  to desire  to consider  just who Jesus really is  and what He should mean  to us,

Have this attitude  in yourselves  which was also  in Christ Jesus,  who although  He existed  in the form  of God,  did not regard equality  with God  a thing  to be grasped,  but emptied Himself,  taking the form  of a bondservant,  and being made  in the likeness  of men.

And being found  in appearance  as a man,  He humbled Himself  by becoming obedient  to the point  of death,  even death  on a cross.

Therefore also  God highly exalted Him,  and bestowed  on Him  the name  which is above  every name,  that at the name  of Jesus  every knee  should bow,  of those  who are  in heaven,  and on earth,  and under the earth,  and that every tongue  should confess  that Jesus Christ  is Lord,  to the glory  of God the Father.

This should  make us  sit up straight  and pay attention.     We are all  created creatures,  who need  an attitude adjustment.     We are born  at some point in time  —  and we will  certainly die  when our time arrives  —  and then,  we certainly will  face our judgment.     But,  Christ Jesus is different  by far  —  “He existed  in the form  of God”.     That tells us  that Jesus  actually is  God Almighty,  the LORD of lords  and God of gods.     Jesus is God  from all eternity.     How that can be,  no human  can honestly explain.     But,  there are many verses  throughout the Old and New Testaments  saying  that Jesus  is God.

We humans  have an awful sense  of pride.     Everybody wants  to be  “top dog”  in his own sphere  of life.     But,  the truth  of the matter  is that we are nothings  —  no matter how much  we imagine ourselves  as being great.     In all  His perfection  and absolute holiness,  Jesus had no sinful pride.     To be our perfect Savior,  His attitude was to  “not regard equality  with God  a thing  to be grasped.”

As our most holy LORD,  Jesus was so humble  that He became  “obedient  to the point of death,  even death  on a cross.”     That is  an amazing perfection  of love  and holiness  that we cannot fully comprehend.     The Creator  and Sustainer  of all things  in creation  is humble  —  not proud  or arrogant  —  not boastful  or pushy.

How Jesus  was both God  and man  at the same time  is far beyond  our human ability  to think.     It simply  doesn’t matter  that our minds  cannot comprehend  this miracle.     Even the angels wonder at it  and praise God  for it.      When Philippians 2:10 tells us  that everyone  “in heaven”“on earth”,  and “under the earth”  (in hellwill confess Jesus as Lord,  we need  to listen up.     If we now choose  to not worship Jesus  as Lord and God,  we will  when we end up  in hell.     Nothing will change  that truth.

In the absolute grace  of Jesus’ saving love,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD Jesus,  thank You  for Your eternal love  that is far beyond compare.”

Love,
Margaret
