Without Faith  It Is Impossible  to Please Him

The Bible  is filled  with examples  of faith  and unbelief.     Many  of the biblical examples  of unbelief  were regarding  people who knew  all about the true   LORD God,  and were a part  of the Jewish nation,  but instead  of trusting God,  they turned  to idols  and superstitions  of various sorts.     What is beautifully wondrous  is that  in the midst  of so many unbelieving Israelites,  there were those  who always maintained  a strong faith  in the LORD God Almighty.

Throughout the historical recordings  of the Old Testament,  we read about  how the unbelievers  often seemed  to be  in the majority.     Their unbelief and rebellion  against God  was always bringing down judgments  on the whole nation.     The judgments consisted  of defeats  in battle,  harassment  from the enemies,  and years  of captivity.

In spite  of all these judgments  that the Israelites experienced  as a whole,  there were  faithful Jews,  who trusted  and believed  in the saving love  of the LORD.     Whatever their life experiences were,  they became stronger  in their faith,  in spite of  their many trials  and the onslaught  of the unbelieving Jews and enemy captors.

In the review  of some  of the faithful Israelites,  Hebrews 11:6  simply states,

And without faith  it is impossible  to please Him,  for he who comes  to God  must believe  that He is,  and that He is a rewarder  of those  who seek Him.

Then Hebrews 11 goes on  to list  a long number  of those  who believed  in God.     Every single one  of the believers listed  had a life time  of troubles  and challenges.     The point is  that their faith  through thick  and thin  pleased God.     They all sincerely believed  that God truly existed  “and that He is a rewarder  of those  who seek Him.”     They were sure  that God existed  because of the history  of their nation.     They also reverenced God because  of the glory  of all His creation.     They knew  that the LORD had promised  eternal life  in heaven  to all who had faith  in Him.     Just the sheer  goodness  and lovingkindness  of the LORD  led them  to hold Him closely  in their hearts  and minds  through every sort  of tribulation.

They were tortured,  mocked,  scourged,  imprisoned,  stoned,  and tempted  in every possible way.     Through it all,  they knew  that the LORD  is God  and that He would work  all things  for their good  in the end.     For that  God approved  of them  and counted them righteous  through faith.

So,  we examine  our own lives.     Are we living lives  of faith  in spite of all the unbelievers surrounding us,  mocking us,  cheating us,  challenging us,  defeating us,   and demeaning us  in every way possible?

We need  to remember  that the LORD  “is a rewarder  of those  who seek Him”  and have  “faith”  in Him.     The heroes  have found that  to be true.

Looking  to our Savior  for the faith  we need,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord Jesus,  Your fulfilled word  has proven  Your faithfulness.     Open our eyes  to Your truths.”

Love,
Margaret
