Men of Whom the World Was Not Worthy

Men  of Whom  the World  Was Not Worthy

In most every field  of our earthly being,  we hear  of the most influential person  in this field  or that field  —  the person  of the year  —  the best dressed  and the worst dressed  —  the award winner  —  the most intelligent,  etc.     The Bible  has its own partial listing  that is admittedly  very incomplete.     After listing some  of those  whom God Almighty  considers  to be truly great  in faith  and  in actual life,  Hebrews 11:37-38  says  about them,

They were stoned,  they were sawn  in two,  they were tempted,  they were put  to death  with the sword;  they went about  in sheepskins,  in goatskins,  being destitute,  afflicted,  ill-treated  ( men  of whom  the world  was not worthy ),  wandering in deserts  and mountains  and caves  and holes  in the ground.

What an awesome contrast!     The real,  eternal,  most influential “award winners”  —  the honestly “best dressed”  —  the truly most “intelligent”  and “richest”  people  in this ol’ world  are despised  by the world.     The world counts  God’s winners  as worthless,  stupid,  and poor dingbats,  who need  to be annihilated.      So,  the world  fights for its  “rights”  for abortion,  gay marriages,  atheistic ideals,  monetary control,  political control,   etc.

But,  when God Almighty,  our Creator  and Redeemer,  looks  at  His children  of faith,  He says  they are,  “men  of whom  the world  was not worthy”.     What the world  mocks  and despises  God holds  in the highest esteem.     What the world honors  and holds  in high regard  will all be destroyed  for all eternity.     It’s amazing  because the world  does not get it.     The world  will never understand  why the richest,  worldly people  are not  the most important  and influential  in eternity.     The world  will never understand  why  political correctness  is not correct  in God’s eyes.     The world  will never understand  why faith  in God Almighty  overwhelmingly trumps  worldly intelligence.

The whole thing  is mind boggling.     It’s a conundrum  to think about.

As Christians,  what should  we realize  as we face  our challenges  in this world  of sin?

Should we  be thinking less  of God Almighty,  our heavenly Father,  and more  of ourselves  in our troubles?     Should we  be complaining  and accusing God  of not loving us?     Should we  be imagining  that our sins  are not forgiven  when God has assuredly promised  that they are forgiven  through faith  in Christ Jesus?

Where is our faith?     Are we willing  to follow the LORD  implicitly  because His word  has absolutely  proven itself  to be faithful  and true?     Or do we want  to listen  to the incessantly conflicting  theories  of the world  that will lead  to nothingness?     Those  “conflicting theories” exist  in false religions,  cults,  atheism,  agnosticism,  and every other sort  of worldly challenge.

The Christian faith  is based  on the eternal truths  of God  —  proven  through the fulfillment  of many prophecies  regarding our Savior.     The “conflicting theories”  are baseless.

Joyfully trusting  in our Savior,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord Jesus,  Your salvation  is  our sure  assurance.”

Love,
Margaret

Not that I have already obtained it,  or have already  become perfect, but I press on  in order that  I may  lay hold  of that for which also  I was laid hold of  by Christ Jesus.
