Do You Not Know  That Friendship  With the World  Is Hostility  Toward God

We easily  get so non-nonchalant  with our behavior.     We imagine  that just because  we know something  about the Bible,  and think  of Jesus  as our Savior,  we can do most anything we want  and get away  with it.     We don’t really care  if it is God-pleasing  or not.     It simply is “felt”  that acknowledging Jesus as Savior  will give us  the green light  to live  as we please  —  all sins forgiven  —  we can live  as we please  —  no worries.

But James shows us  that there is a problem  with that line  of thinking.     It’s disrespectful  —  and most unloving.      James 4:4  warns us,

You adulteresses,  do you not know  that friendship  with the world  is hostility  toward God?     Therefore  whoever wishes  to be a friend  of the world  makes himself  an enemy  of God.

Any  and every Christian,  who thinks  they can live  like the rest  of this world  is actually hostile  “toward God”.     Nobody  can pretend friendship  with God  and get away with it  on Judgment Day.     James calls all pretenders  “adulteresses”.     No way  can anyone  be true  to God  and true  to the world  at the same time.     We’re either  for the world’s ways  or we’re for  God’s ways.     We simply  cannot have life  both ways.

We are  to always remember  how greatly Christ Jesus  suffered  and died  to pay  for all  our sins.     We can’t do anything  to pay  for even one  of our sins.     So,  without Christ Jesus  we are eternally doomed  to hell.     If we don’t appreciate  what Christ  has done  for us  —  and show our appreciation  by living  according  to God’s love  and grace  —  then we are living a damnable sham.

Are we really  fooling ourselves?     Do we even have  enough heart  to care  about God,  our Savior?

God is so willing  to forgive  all our sins  for Jesus’ sake.     But,  He will not tolerate hypocrites  —  and nobody  can fool God.     Our LORD already knows  our every thought  and intention.

But,  there is hope  as James 4:8-10  says,

Draw near  to God  and He will draw near  to you.     Cleanse your hands,  you sinners;  and purify your hearts,  you double-minded.     Be miserable  and mourn  and weep;  let your laughter  be turned  into mourning,  and your joy  to gloom.

Humble yourselves  in the presence  of the Lord,  and He will exalt you.

This promise  is given  to us  in many different places  throughout the Bible.     This is the way  things have worked  for many  throughout history.     So, let us wise up  and realize  the vital importance  of honestly  being a friend  of God  with our whole being.

In as sincere love  for our Lord  and Savior,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord Jesus,  thank You  for strengthening us  to truly live  to Your glory.”

Love,
Margaret
