Under the Mighty Hand  of God

It seems  to be our natural tendency  to want  to do things  our way.     We don’t  always want  to have others  telling us  what to do.     We even get this way  with God Almighty,  our Creator  and Redeemer.     There is a terrible lack  of understanding  of our reality  when we imagine  that our way  is better than God’s way.

We are mere created beings  living on this earth  for a relatively short time.     We don’t have  the capacity  to love  as purely  and faithfully  as God loves us.     We are unable  to say  what the future holds.     We don’t even know  a whole lot  about the past history  of every person  that has ever lived.     We don’t have the knowledge  or power  to create  anything that is  in creation.

So,  who are we  to proudly imagine  that we know  what is best  for our life situation?

Rather than proudly thinking  we know better  than anyone else,  God wants us  to have a humble attitude  —  especially when dealing  with God  in our lives.     1 Peter 5:6-7  tells us to,

Humble yourselves,  therefore,  under the mighty hand  of God,  that He may exalt you  at the proper time,  casting all your anxiety  upon Him,  because He cares  for you.

Because  “the mighty hand  of God”  is able  to do  all things  —  and because God’s love  for us  is so true  and faithful  —  we can trust  our Lord  and Savior  to work all things  for our good  in the end.   ( Romans 8:28 )

That is why  it is so good  for us  to be aware  of our sinful tendency  to be proud  and dependent  on our own strength  and desires.     We need  to constantly  be on guard  against the deceitfulness  of our pride.     It is always vital  for us  to  “humble”  ourselves  “under the mighty hand  of God”.     In His wisdom  and tender love,  our Lord is sure to  “exult you  at the proper time.”

Instead of imagining  we can do all things  through our own strength,  we need  to humbly be  “casting  all your anxiety  upon Him,  because He cares  for you.”     It’s good  to know  that our Creator  and Redeemer  loves us dearly.     He has already done things  for us  that are impossible  for us  —  like making us holy  and fit  for heaven.     After all that,  surely we can trust Him  for the smaller things  in life.

Looking  at all that  “the mighty hand  of God”  has accomplished  for us  in Christ Jesus,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for knowing all our cares  even before  we are aware  of them.”

Love,
Margaret
