Under His Wings

Under  His Wings

When chicks are small,  they know how  to find refuge  under the wings  of their mother hen.     Whether they have  a need  for warmth  —  protection  from a storm  —  or protection  from predators,  they know  for sure  that their mother hen  will surely protect them.     There are even stories  about fires  in which a mother hen  faithfully protected  her young  underneath her  as she burned  to death.     Her baby chicks  were found alive  underneath her  after the fire  was put out.

This sort  of protective love  is used  as an illustration  to us  of God’s faithfulness  in protecting  His children.     Psalm 91:1-4  says,

He  who dwells  in the shelter  of the Most High
Will abide  in the shadow  of the Almighty.
I will say  to the LORD,  “My refuge  and my fortress,
My God,  in whom I trust!”
For it is He  who delivers you  from the snare  of the trapper,
And from the deadly pestilence.
He will cover you  with His pinions,
And  under His wings  you may seek refuge;
His faithfulness is a shield  and bulwark.

It is so important  for us  to always make sure  we are dwelling  “in the shelter  of the Most High”.     When we make sure  we are living  in the truths  of God’s holy word,  we are  “in the shelter  of the Most High”.     God’s truths  are a  “shelter”  from all the untruths  promoted by the sins  of this world.     As we live  in God’s  “shelter”  we are sure to be  “in the shadow  of the Almighty”.

To say  we are  in God’s  “shadow”  shows how very close  we stay  to our Creator and Redeemer.     We never let God  get out  of our sight  and we make sure  we are close enough  so that He will always be  our  “refuge”  and  “fortress”.     It is God’s  almighty strength,  faithfulness,  and love  that we know we can  “trust”.

It is a very blessed comfort  in every trial  and situation  that we can be assured  that  under His wings  you may seek refuge;  His faithfulness is a shield  and bulwark”.     Let us always  make sure  we have  the blessed comfort  of being near God  by abiding  in His word,  talking to Him  in prayer  and praises,  and by honoring Him  with the worship  that is due  to His most holy name.

Because our Savior Jesus has already accomplished  His work  of salvation  for us,  we are always able  to  “seek refuge”  “under His wings”  —  the  “wings”  of His saving love  and power  to forgive all our sins.     We remember  that “His faithfulness  is a shield  and bulwark”  for all  our struggles  in this sinful world.     Jesus faithfully protects us  from the onslaughts  of this world.     We just need  to abide  in His love.

So glad  for God’s protection  “under His wings”,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord Jesus,  thank You  for Your sacrificial love  for us.     You have saved us  from the deadliness  of this world’s sins.”

Love,
Margaret
