The Peace  of God

Today,  stressed out people  are trying  to find peace  in the various types  of meditation practices found  in heathen religions.     Stressed with problems at work,  health problems,  family problems,  etc.,  they greatly desire  a moment  of peace  and relaxation  —  a time to just  get away  from it all  —  a time  to be free  from all their pains  and worries  —  a kumbaya moment.

Many  will joyfully  and adamantly claim  that these Eastern meditation practices  “really”  help them.     They don’t even  give a second thought  to the fact  that they are involving themselves  in a godless practice.     Many Bible verses  warn us against  copying the ways  of heathens.     One is Deuteronomy 18:9,

When you enter the land  which the LORD  your God gives you,  you shall  not learn  to imitate  the detestable things  of those nations.

A warning  like that  stands forever  in God’s eyes.     Therefore,  when false preachers  were deceitfully trying  to mislead  the early Christians,  Paul warned us  in 2 Corinthians 11:14,

…….even Satan  disguises himself  as an angel  of light.

It might appear  that the various Eastern meditation practices  are “good”  for us,  but  that is not  the way  God wants us  to choose.     These sorts  of practices  lead us away  from God  our Savior,  and con us  into depending  on the world.     For sure,  Satan is able  to give anyone  a feeling  of peace  and relaxation.     It also  for sure  that Satan  wishes  to lead us  away  from God  to our eternal damnation.     He’ll do anything  to make us deny  the love  and salvation  of our LORD.     We need only consider  the “satisfactions”  that various criminals,  drug addicts,  prostitutes,  and heathens claim  to have.     They are all  lost eternally  —  unless they turn back  to Christ Jesus,  our Lord.

The apostle Paul  encourages us  to always,  “Rejoice  in the Lord”.   ( Philippians 4:4 )     Why?     Because God Almighty  is fully able  to carry us through  any and every trial.     Instead of getting  all stressed out,  we are  to remember  God’s power  in all  of creation  —  and God’s power  in our salvation  through Christ Jesus.     So,  Paul wrote  in Philippians 4:6-7,

Be anxious  for nothing,  but in everything  by prayer  and supplication  with thanksgiving  let your requests  be made known  to God.     And the peace  of Godwhich surpasses  all comprehension,  shall guard  your hearts  and your minds  in Christ Jesus.

Instead  of seeking  an artificial  and godless peace  in this world,  we are  to confidently approach  the one-and-only LORD God Almighty,  with whom  all things  are possible  and nothing  is impossible.     He alone  is able  to give us a peace”  “which surpasses  all comprehension”.     Nobody  can explain  how this  “peace  of God”  comes  into our hearts  and minds.      But,  it’s surely there.     And,  as God knows how  to comfort  the very depths  of our hearts,  He “guards”  us from the godless ways  of this world.

Resting  in God’s peace,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  our Savior,  thank You  for the wondrous peace  that surpasses  all understanding.”

Love,
Margaret
