When  the Wicked  Sprouted Up  Like Grass

It can seem like  no matter  where we look  there is wickedness  of every sort.     People willingly cheat  in business.     People don’t care how much they lie  and slander.     Politics is run amuck  with corruption  of every sort  —  and godless people  love to vote in  godless politicians.     People love their flagrantly sinful lives  and want the  “freedom”  to sin  in even more ways.

The outlook  for a future  of peace,  decency,  and goodness  is looking  very dim  —  actually impossible.

So,  how are we supposed  to think  and feel  about all the corruption  that surrounds us  and mocks us  day after day?

Psalm 92:5-9  tells us,

How great  are Your works,  O LORD!
Your thoughts  are very deep.
A senseless man  has no knowledge,
Nor does a stupid man  understand this:
That  when the wicked  sprouted up  like grass
And all  who did iniquity  flourished,
It was only  that they might  be destroyed  forevermore.
But You,  O LORD,  are on high  forever.
For,  behold,  Your enemies,  O LORD,
For,  behold,  Your enemies  will perish;
All who do iniquity  will be scattered.

God,  in His almighty holiness,  has obviously done innumerable  great works  that include  all creation,  prophesying a Savior,  and fulfilling  those promises  in Christ Jesus.     Since the beginning of time  there have been many  who have mocked God  and laughingly imagined  that they can sin  as much as they want.     They feel God  does not have  any power  to stop them.

They may think  they are smart  and in control,  but  “A senseless man  has no knowledge,  nor does  a stupid man  understand this…”     The wicked are  “senseless”  and  “stupid”  according  to God’s word.     They don’t have a clue  as  to how God’s  “thoughts  are very deep”.     God,  in His wisdom  and love,  is able  to be very patient  and kind,  because there are some  “senseless”  and  “stupid”  people  who will  be saved  when they turn  to the LORD  in repentance  and faith.     According  to God’s love  for us,  His patience  is worthwhile  for those few souls.     But,  we had better not  test Him.

Certainly,  God’s children  suffer  in this world  of sin  and corruption.     But,  we do need  to always remember  our LORD’s ways.     Justice  will be done  in all righteousness  in the end.     Those  who choose  to love  their sins  will be  “destroyed  forevermore”.     The more wicked  they choose  to be  in this world,  the greater  their destruction  will be.     They may boast  about how successful  they are  in their corruptions,  but they  “will perish”  “forevermore”.     Then,  it will be too late  for repentance.     God’s love  and patience  will have been wasted  on them.

God’s children  can rest assured  that an eternal glory  awaits us  as we abide  in our Savior’s almighty,  saving love.     We must  always remember  that God’s  “thoughts are very deep”.     God knows how to care  for us  in this life  till we reach our heavenly home,  where we’ll say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  Your love  and wisdom  are our treasure.”

Love,
Margaret
