How Precious  Also  Are Your Thoughts  to Me,  O God!

It’s just  plain ol’ good  to know  for sure  we are loved.     Knowing we are loved  is comforting  as it assures us  of safety,  being cared for,  fellowship,  close companionship,  and someone who honestly listens  to us.

When King David sang  about God’s closeness  to him  and intimate knowledge  of his being,  he really thanked  the LORD  for faithfully caring  about everything  that pertained  to his well-being.     So,  he wrote in Psalm 139:17-18,

How precious  also  are Your thoughts  to me,  O God!
How vast  is the sum  of them!
If I should  count them,  they would outnumber  the sand.
When I awake,  I am still  with You.

David realized  that it didn’t matter  where he was  or  what he was doing,  God Almighty  knew all about it  and watched  over his soul.     David was glad  that God  cared so much  for him  that our LORD  even paid attention  to David’s thoughts.     God was always thinking  about David.     That made David rejoice  and sing,  “How precious  also  are Your thoughts  to me,  O God!”     God was so closely  and constantly thinking  about David,  that David had to exclaim,  “How vast  is the sum  of them!”     God’s total number  of thoughts  and loving care  for David could not  even be counted.

Actually,  God is that way  with each of us  also.     God cares  so much  for us,  that He pays attention  to our every thought  and feeling.

Then,  the question becomes,  how loving  and caring  are our thoughts  towards God  our Savior?     How often  do we think  about God  and care  about His feelings?     Do we care  about God’s sadness  over our sins?     Do we seek  to please God  with our lifestyle?     We know  God loves  honesty,  righteousness,  humility,  and kindheartedness.     Are our thoughts  towards God  always aware  of this  and striving  to imitate  His ways?

When we think about  our  constant thoughts  and ways,  we remember God’s words  to us in Jeremiah 31:3,

I have loved you  with an everlasting love;
Therefore I have drawn you  with lovingkindness.

We don’t deserve  such a faithful love,  but God  loves us anyway.     Thinking about that,  we can be  really thankful  for such a wondrous love.     It’s awesome  how knowing God’s love  strengthens us  to grow  in faith,  hope,  and love.

Reflecting  on God  knowing and loving us  so intimately,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  we are ever so glad  that in all  of Your vast creation,  You stoop  to think  of us  and care.     You are awesome  in love!”

Love,
Margaret
