Those  Who Love  Your Law  Have Great Peace

Obviously these days,  there are many  who despise  and hate  the laws  of the land.     Their hatred  of the law  drives them  to belligerently murder,  rape,  rob,  destroy property,  sell drugs illegally,  lie,  break constitutional laws,  and commit fraud  of every sort.     Of course,  they claim innocence  whenever someone points out  their evil ways,  but their contentious hearts are,  at the same time,  planning more wickedness.     They are  not only breaking the laws  of the land,  but they are defying God Almighty  at the same time.

In contrast,  God’s word often describes the ways of God’s children.     Psalm 119:165 says,

Those who love Your law  have great peace,
And nothing causes them  to stumble.

There is a  “great peace”  being in fellowship  with our Creator  and Redeemer.     That’s because God’s ways  are so good,  right,  and loving  that they are a comfort  to all  of His children.     God’s ways  are so good  and desirable,  that they enable us  to choose  what is right  and not  “stumble”  into the degrading sins  of this world.

Jesus taught us  the connection  between love  and obedience.     Some examples  of His teachings  include,

If you love Me,  you will  keep My commandments.     John 14:15

If anyone loves Me,  he will keep My word;  and My Father will love him,  and We will come  to him  and make Our abode  with him.     John 14:23

If you keep My commandments,  you will abide  in My love;  just as I have kept  My Father’s commandments  and abide  in His love.     John 15:10

Jesus’ teachings  on this  are so helpful  to us  that 1 John 2:3  later tells us,

By this  we know  that we have come  to know Him,  if we keep  His commandments.

In other words,  God’s children  really want  to please  the LORD.     Their love  for God  urges them  to imitate  His goodness.     We can be assured  that we are  in fellowship  with our Lord and Savior  when  “we keep His commandments”.

When we take the time  to study  and learn God’s word  to us,  we will fully realize  that the “commandments”  God wants us  to obey  have absolutely nothing  to do  with what  we eat  and  drink  —  nothing to do with a fetish  in keeping any man made,  religious traditions,  rules,  or habits  —  and nothing  to do with keeping Old Testament covenants  that were put away  in Christ Jesus.

Much rather,  Galatians 5:22-23 describes  the commandments Christ desires us  to keep,

But the fruit  of the Spirit  is love,  joy,  peace,  patience,  kindness,  goodness,  faithfulness,  gentleness,  self-control;  against such things  there is no law.

The commandments  Jesus wants  us to keep  come from  a change  of heart.     They come from  a heart filled  with faith,  hope,  and love.     Jesus’ commandments  are the fruits  of a life  in fellowship  with our LORD  and Savior.     They are a natural outcome  of understanding  God’s wondrous love  for each of us.

With the peace  of honestly loving God’s  “law”  of being,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord Jesus,  thank You  for leading us  into the freedom  of knowing  and keeping  Your laws  of love.”

Love,
Margaret
