Anxiety

Sometimes  it seems like  no matter where we turn,  there are reasons  for “anxiety”.     We hear the world news  and feel  “anxiety”  over all  that is taking place.     We hear  the local news  in our home town  and feel  “anxiety”  over all sorts  of distressing occurrences.     There can even be  “anxiety”  in family matters.

There is absolutely no way  we can resolve any  of these overwhelming problems.     We might  put forth efforts  with all our strength,  all our resources,  and all our knowledge,   but we are helpless  and unable  to change  the course  of anything.     But then,  we’ll gather our courage  once again  and try again.     Our own efforts  are still worthless.     We don’t know  what else  to do.     Depending  on all  our own wherewithal  doesn’t get us anywhere.

And,  that’s the problem.     We are depending  on our own strength  and ability.     Basically,  our problem  is pride  in thinking  the answers  to all our problems  lie within  our own resources.     The apostle Peter  tells us  what  to do  when everything  is falling apart  all around us.     He writes in 1 Peter 5:6-7,

Humble yourselves,  therefore,  under the mighty hand  of God,  that He may  exalt you  at the proper time,  casting all  your anxiety  upon Him,  because  He cares  for you.

That’s marvelous  —  “He cares  for you.”     This is a personal  and almighty care.     God desires  to care  for us.     But,  we must  “humble”  ourselves  “under”  the authority,  power,  and care  of the LORD our God.     We must trust  His ways.     We cannot imagine,  “Well,  I can take care  of this  all by myself  —  I have enough power  and influence  to get things done  my way  —  the right way.”

We have  no power,  ability,  or influence  without God’s authority  having given it  to us.     God is our strength  in every situation.     If we fail  to depend  on Him  for all our needs,  our pride  will lead us  to fail  in having faith  —  the very thing  that saves us  in all eternity.     Without a  “humble”,  trusting  faith  we have lost everything  forever.

Pride works  to destroy  all that is Godly,  righteous,  faithful,  and truthful.     But,  come Judgment Day,  pride will be destroyed  with all the evils  and falsehoods  it promoted.     While living  in this proud,  aggressive world,  we need  to be constantly  on guard  against the pride  that tries  to overtake us.     We must look  to God  for all our cares.

Throughout  our earthly lives  we must remember  to constantly  “humble yourselves,  therefore,  under the mighty hand  of God,  that He may  exalt you  at the proper time,  casting all your anxiety  upon Him,  because  He cares  for you.”

Trusting  in God’s care,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  You sustain  and carry us  through our every temptation  and trial.     Thank You  for Your almighty care.”

Love,
Margaret

Not that I have already obtained it,  or have already  become perfect, but I press on  in order that  I may  lay hold  of that for which also  I was laid hold of  by Christ Jesus.
