Sanctify Them in the Truth

Sanctify Them  in the Truth

There are so many impossibilities  for us humans.     We cannot live  without water  and air.     We cannot  create a universe  just by speaking it  into existence,  as the LORD did.     We cannot  keep ourselves  from dying  and facing Judgment Day.     And,  most devastatingly,  we cannot  make ourselves holy  and without sin.

No matter how hard we try  to be good  in every way,  we still sin.     King David had  to confess  in Psalm 51:5,

Behold,  I was brought forth  in iniquity,
And  in sin  my mother conceived me.

So,  here we are  —  sinners,  totally unable  to get rid  of our sin.     And,  Romans 6:23  has to remind us,

For the wages  of sin  is death.

But,  in all this,  Jesus prayed  for us  in John 17:17,

Sanctify them  in the truth;  Your word  is truth.

Jesus is praying  that we  would be made  perfectly holy  and sinless.     But, how?     “In the truth.”     We are made  pure and holy  “in the truth”.

But,  everybody says truth  cannot be known  —  and that there are  many truths  —  many ways  to heaven.     Jesus is here  bluntly saying,  “No.”     Much rather,  Jesus says  in His prayer,  “Your word  is truth.”     All of the word  of God  —  the Bible  —  contains the truth  we need  to know  in order  to be sanctified  —  to be made holy  and sinless.

There is absolutely  no other way  to become sanctified,  holy,  without sin,  fit for heaven.     Going to the various writings  of other religions  and philosophies  won’t do anything  for us.     Practicing various rituals  and methods  of meditation  won’t do us  one bit  of good.     The ways  of this world  are worthless.      They are nothing but  the ways  of other sinners.     What good  is that?

But,  God’s word  —  the Bible  —  has proven it’s truthfulness.     How?     Through the fulfillment  of many prophecies  regarding our Savior,  Jesus Christ.     That shows us  that the Bible  truly is inspired  by God.     The prophets  who wrote  were under the influence  of God Almighty  because all their words  came true  in the life,  death,  and resurrection  of Christ Jesus.      No other so-called “holy book”  has proven  its trustworthiness  as the Bible has.

So,  2 Timothy 3:16 challenges us  to check it out  by saying,

All Scripture  is inspired  by God  and profitable  for teaching,  for reproof,  for correction,  for training  in righteousness.

As we constantly turn  to God’s word  for all our instruction  in the truth,  God will work  in our hearts  the truths  of His salvation  through Christ Jesus alone.     As God teaches our hearts  and minds,  Jesus’ prayer will be answered  —  Sanctify them  in the truthYour word  is truth.”      Test it out.     See what you can learn  from God  every day  as you honestly  spend time learning  from His word  in the Bible.

In the blessed freedom  of our Creator and Redeemer’s truth,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD God,  thank You  for compassionately leading us  in Your truth.”

Love,
Margaret
