Remember  How the Foolish Man  Reproaches You  All Day Long

Down through the ages,  there have been many ways  in which unbelievers have defied  the LORD God.     They have created cults  and their own false doctrines  in order  to tear down  God’s truths  and build up  their own following.     And,  there have been many  who have burned down churches,  torn down God’s altars,  and bombed churches.     Violence  and belligerence  against the LORD  is not a new thing.

When it was happening  in the days  of the psalmist,  Asaph,  he wrote  the following verses  in Psalm 74,

Remember Your congregation,  which You have purchased  of old.     Verse 2

The enemy  has damaged everything  within the sanctuary.     Verse 3

They have set up  their own standards  for signs.     Verse 4

They have burned Your sanctuary  to the ground;
They have defiled  the dwelling place  of Your name.     Verse 7

Arise,  O God,  and plead  Your own cause;
Remember  how the foolish man  reproaches You  all day long.     Verse 22

Do not forget the voice  of Your adversaries,
The uproar  of those  who rise against You  which ascends continually.     Verse 23

In this Psalm,  Asaph also remembers  all the awesome  and powerful works  of the LORD.     Our LORD  is the one and only Almighty,  the Creator  and Sustainer  of all things,  and our Redeemer.     And yet,  He allows  “the foolish man”  to reproach Him  and His children  “all day long”.     It’s hard  for us  to fathom.

We even see  the destructive hatred  in today’s news casts.     And we pray  for God’s children,  who are being killed  for no reason  other than the hatred  of the unbelievers,  who are so  “foolish”  in their incessant  “reproaches”.     They don’t even care  that they are reviling  their own Creator  and Sustainer.     They don’t understand  that the LORD  could utterly destroy them  instantly.     Their minds  are set  with the lies  of their manufactured gods,  that are not really gods  at all.     And,  they don’t understand  how they are condemning themselves  for their  “foolish”  refusal  of God’s love  and salvation  through faith  in Christ Jesus.

But,  the same kind  of foolishness  and reproachfulness is  in all the various cult leaders,  who pretend  to be God’s children  —  but hate God’s plan  of salvation.     They also damage  the  “sanctuary”  —  “set up their own standards  for signs”  — and “have defiled  the dwelling place  of Your name”.     We can rest assured  that God knows all  of it  and will judge  each and every one  at the time  He has set.

That’s why  we need  to become thoroughly grounded  in God’s truths,  so that when all these  “foolish” people desire  to destroy  our faith,  hope,  and love,  we will safely remain  in the true faith.     It’s as Jesus said  in John 8:31-32,

If you continue  in My word,  then you are truly disciples  of Mine;  and you will know the truth,  and the truth  will make you free.

In the freedom  of God’s salvation,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord Jesus,  You truly are  the way,  the truth,  and the life.”

Love,
Margaret
