That Grace  Might Increase

There are those  who love  to twist  God’s words  in order  to justify  their sins.     They will  nonchalantly claim  that it is good  to do something evil  if a good will come  of it  in the end.     Then  they proudly imagine  that they are  really justifying  their evil ways.     We need  to think  about the evil  they are trying  to justify.     In facing such wicked thinking,  Paul wrote  in Romans 6:1-2,

What shall we say then?     Are we  to continue  in sin  that grace might increase?     May it never be!     How shall we  who died  to sin  still live  in it?

In other words,  sin is never justified  through the wicked imaginations  of people.     No matter how  arrogant people want  to wink  at sin  and make grand claims  about the acceptability  of certain sins,  such lies  will be condemned  eternally.     We just need  to consider the sin  of Adam  and Eve  in the Garden  of Eden.     They stopped believing  God’s word  —  arrogantly wanted  to be   like God  —  preferred  an outright lie  —  were proud  of the abilities  they imagined  they had  —  trusted Satan instead  of God  —  and tried  to hide their guilt.

God’s eternal word condemns  their every thought,  intention,  and action.     When anyone  proudly tries  to justify  any sin,  we need  to remember verses like the following.

You shall not  put the LORD  your God  to the test.       Deuteronomy 6:16

The wise men  are put  to shame.
They are dismayed  and caught;
Behold,  they have rejected  the word  of the LORD,
And what kind  of wisdom  do they have?       Jeremiah 8:9

Remember the former things  long past,
For I am God,  and there is no other;
I am God,  and there is no one  like Me.     Isaiah 46:9

For they exchanged  the truth  of God  for a lie,  and worshiped  and served  the creature  rather than the Creator,  who is blessed forever.       Romans 1:25

Pride goes  before destruction,
And a haughty spirit  before stumbling.       Proverbs 16:18

Trust in the LORD  with all your heart
And do not lean  on your own understanding.       Proverbs 3:5

Woe  to those  who deeply hide their plans  from the LORD,
And whose deeds  are done  in a dark place,
And they say,  “Who sees us?”  or  “Who knows us?”       Isaiah 29:15

Let no one deceive you  with empty words,  for because  of these things  the wrath  of God comes  upon the sons of disobedience.     Ephesians 5:6

If we rightly love  our LORD  and Savior,  we will never  deliberately twist  His words  in an attempt  to justify  our corruption.     Considering how Jesus taught that Satan  is the father  of lies   ( John 8:44 ),  we always remember verses  like Revelation 21:8,

But  for the cowardly  and unbelieving  and abominable  and murderers  and immoral persons  and sorcerers  and idolaters  and all liars,  their part  will be  in the lake  that burns  with fire  and brimstone,  which is the second death.

It is with a deep respect  for God’s holiness  and faithful truths  that we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for strengthening us  in Your word.”

Love,
Margaret
