They Ambush  Their Own Lives

This world  is often called  a dark world  because of all the evils  in it.     People rob,  kill,  slander,  commit sexual sins  of all sorts,  commit fraud,  lie,  bear false witness  —  you name it.     These are all  purposeful sins  that people plan ahead  of time.     They have no love,  regard,  or respect  for the well-being  of anyone else.     They even laugh  at the evils  they get away with  and gain  a sense  of power  over others.     The more evil they do,  the more emboldened  they become  to be  even more evil.     They even want others  to join them  so they will have  more power  as a group.

Proverbs  chapter 1 describes such people,  and Solomon warns his son  in Proverbs 1:15,

My son,  do not walk  in the way  with them.
Keep your feet  from their path.

And then  Solomon describes the end  of all wicked people  in Proverbs 1:18-19,

But they lie  in wait  for their own blood;
They ambush  their own lives.
So are the ways  of everyone  who gains  by violence;
It takes away  the life  of its possessors.

These wicked people gloat  over their stolen possessions  and violence,  but do not realize that  “They ambush  their own lives.     They are  brazenly condemning themselves  more and more  every day.     They are bringing judgment  upon themselves.      And,  it’s not just  a short punishment  they will have  to face  —  it’s their  “lives”  for all eternity.     They will lose eternal life  and earn eternal death.     What a waste  of their earthly life.

Knowing this,  some will say,  “Well,  I don’t kill,  steal,  lie,  or anything like that,  so I won’t end up  in hell.”     But,  they have no time  for God  as they disregard and despise  His word,  and sneer at the  “foolishness”  of having faith  in salvation  through Christ Jesus alone.     They proudly imagine  prayer is foolishness  —  faith in God  is a weakness  —  obedience  to God’s ways  is childish  —  and God is  just a figment  of people’s imagination.

This is  a description  of unbelief  in their Creator  and Redeemer.     They don’t think  it’s a serious matter  because they don’t consider themselves  to be bad people.     But,  the bottom line  is that the LORD God  is real.     He really made us  —  really loved us  —  and really sacrificed His only begotten Son  that we might be redeemed.     To disregard  these truths  is sheer blasphemy,  so God’s wisdom  says  in Proverbs 1:24-25,

I called,  and you refused;
I stretched out  my hand,  and no one paid attention;
And you neglected  all My counsel,
And did not want  My reproof.

He goes on  to say  that such waywardness  will destroy all those  who act  so foolishly.     Why?     Because they are despising God’s proven love  and salvation.     When our Creator,  Redeemer  so loves us,  we need  to pay attention  and show respect,  with faith  in His proven,  eternal word.     Fulfilled prophecies  are the proof  of God’s authority.

Seeing God’s power  all around us,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  glorify  Your saving love  in our lives.”

Love,
Margaret
