Delight Yourself  in Abundance

Ho!     Everyone who thirsts,  come to the waters;
And you  who have no money  come,  buy and eat.
Come,  buy wine  and milk
Without money  and without cost.

Why do you spend money  for what is not bread,
And your wages  for what does not satisfy?
Listen carefully  to Me,  and eat  what is good,
And delight yourself  in abundance.

Incline your ear  and come  to Me.
Listen,  that you may live.        Isaiah 55:1-3

This is quite the invitation  from our LORD God  —  our Creator  and Redeemer.     And  it all has to do  with what Jesus said  to the devil  in Matthew 4:4  as He quoted Deuteronomy 8:3,

Man shall not live  on bread alone,  but on every word  that proceeds out  of the mouth  of God.

Every single one of us  on earth  will die  some day.     Whether or not we live  after that  in all eternity  depends  on whether  or not  we have carefully listened to  and accepted  God’s invitation  to  “eat what is good,  and delight yourself  in abundance.”

God’s invitation  points out to us  our thirst  and hunger  for something better  than what this world  is engrossed in.     The world wants lots  of money  for all sorts   of foods  and stuff.     Here on earth,  we can eat  a whole bountiful meal  and still know  that something is missing  in our hearts  and souls.     The foods  that keep our bodies alive  do nothing  to keep our souls alive  and well.

To keep  our souls alive  and well  we must partake  of God’s word  to us.     God’s word is  “what is good”.     God’s word  is what we can  “delight”  ourselves with  “in abundance”.     There is no limit  to the wonders  of God’s love  as revealed  in His word.     God’s word satisfies  our needs  for faith,  hope,  and love.     God’s word strengthens us  in the truths  that give us eternal salvation.     They give us joy,  peace,  and comfort  in all our trials.

God does not want us  to hang back  in our miseries,  doubts,  and fears.     Rather,  our LORD  tenderly invites us to  “Incline your ear  and come  to Me.     Listen,  that you may live.”        We have nothing  to lose  —  and everything  to gain.

Let us daily  delight ourselves  in God’s eternal word,  so we might enjoy  the abundance  of His love  for us  and finally get to really  “live”.    It’s a real privilege  to be able  to partake  of  “every word  that proceeds out  of the mouth  of God.”     In the pleasure  of that privilege,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You for inviting us  to partake  of Your word.     As You teach us,  create in us  clean hearts and right spirits.”

Love,
Margaret
