Grow  in Respect  to Salvation

Sometimes  we tend  to look up  to those  we consider  to be strong  in the true faith  and really wish  we had a faith  like theirs.     But,  the “funny” thing is  that we rarely crack open  our Bibles,  we rarely  really pray  to our Lord,  and in our worship services,  we are not directly  praising our Lord.     We might think about  all the heroes  of faith  in the Bible,  and wish  we were like them,  but when we  face a challenge  much smaller than theirs,  we do nothing  but complain.     All our thinking is  that God  does not  love us  —  we don’t have  what we want.

All this  is why  1 Peter 2:2-3 says,

……. long for the pure milk  of the word,  so that  by it  you may grow  in respect  to salvation,  if you have tasted  the kindness  of the Lord.

How can we really  “grow  in respect  to salvation”  and be  like the heroes  of faith  in the Bible?     Peter says  we must  long  for the pure milk  of the word.”     We need  to want  to get  to know the Lord better  by studying His word.     We need  to get better acquainted  with what God wants  to teach us,  so we can honestly say  we have  “tasted  the kindness  of the Lord.”

We are  to put our faith  in the living LORD God  of all.     We simply  are not looking  to some block  of wood,  stone,  or metal  carved  to look  like some earthly thing.     Our LORD  is the one-and-only  true God  over all.     He created all things  and sustains all things  —  including us.     God is not dead  —  He is eternally living.     This is why  God is called  our  “Rock”  and a  living stone”.     He is eternally strong and solid.     He alone  gives us  a strong foundation.

So, 1 Peter 2:4-5  continues  by telling us,

And coming  to Him  as to a living stone  which has been rejected  by men,  but is choice  and precious  in the sight  of God,  you also,  as living stones,  are being built up  as a spiritual house  for a holy priesthood  to offer up  spiritual sacrifices  acceptable to God  through Jesus Christ.

As we go  to our “living” God Almighty,  who has been rejected  by the world,  we are  to so grow  in God’s truths  that it may be said  we are  “as living stones.     God is building us  all together  as His  “spiritual house  for a holy priesthood”.      God wants  to see us  growing together  in “spiritual”  service  to Him.     Wherever we are  in this world,  we are  to be serving God  in the way  He desires us  to serve Him  —  in truth  and to His glory.     God wants all  of His people  to come  to know Him  through His word.     That is why  we are to serve God  where we are  and as He desires.      Everybody everywhere needs to learn  about salvation  through Christ Jesus.

As we trust  God’s leading,  we will  “grow  in respect  to salvation”  and say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for willingly building us  into a “spiritual house”  to offer up  “spiritual sacrifices”  to Your glory  where ever we are.”

Love,
Margaret
