Your Truth  Will Continually  Preserve Me

We have so much  to be really thankful for.     Foremost  of all  is our access  to God’s word  to us  and God’s faithfulness  in helping us grow  in His salvation.     In this day and age,  there are many reasons why some  don’t know God’s word.     Maybe  they know a little bit  and despise it,  so they don’t want  to know  any more.     Maybe  they are so self-sufficient,  they feel it’s only  for weaklings.     Maybe  they grew up  in a different religion  and feel Christianity  has got to be wrong.     And,  maybe they are atheistic.

With so many people around us  denying God  in so many different ways,  one might wonder  if we  will be able  to hold onto  God’s truths.     Our own gumption and strength  cannot hold onto God.     It is God Almighty  who has to hold onto us.     It’s as King David says in Psalm 40:11,

Your lovingkindness  and Your truth  will continually  preserve me.

There can be all sorts  of false prophets,  unbelievers,  and “self-made” people around us —  but, when we live  in the word of God  day by day,  God will  “preserve” us  with His  “truth”.      God’s  “truth”  faithfully works  to  “preserve” us because His  “lovingkindness”  is so great  towards us.     Psalm 89:14  describes God Himself  by saying,

Righteousness  and justice  are the foundation  of Your throne;
Lovingkindness  and truth go before You.

This is our God.     He is all  “righteousness  and justice”“lovingkindness  and truth”.     This is just a part  of who God is.     Jesus teaches us  this same thing  in John 14:6,

I am the way,  and the truth,  and the life;  no one comes  to the Father,  but through Me.

And when Jesus prays  for us  in John 17:17,

Sanctify them  in the truth;  Your word  is truth,

He is showing us  where we will have  “lovingkindness”“truth” “righteousness”,  and  “justice”.      We must stick  to God’s truth  in Christ Jesus  in the Bible.     John 1:1  actually calls Jesus  “the Word”  because  as God,  Jesus was the fulfillment  of all the Old Testament promises  of a Savior.

In the beginning  was the Word,  and the Word  was with God,  and the Word was God.

This is a marvelous truth  that points  to our salvation,  because  “Your lovingkindness  and Your truth  will continually preserve me.”      God preserves us  in His word,  in Christ Jesus,  so we always look  to Jesus  to show us His way  through this life.

Ever comforted  by God’s Word  to us,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord Jesus,  keep us holy  in Your words  of promise.”

Love,
Margaret
