Who  Has Put Wisdom  In the Innermost Being?

Just how did it happen  that mankind  got a brain  to invent  the wheel,  Internet,  GPS,  space travel,  tall buildings,  machines of all sorts,  or anything at all?     Could it really be  some unfathomable accident  — or freak happening  that brought  such a brain  into existence?     If the brain  did just accidentally come together,  can it be trustworthy  in any sense  of trustworthiness?     Are mankind’s mathematical calculations sensible?     If so,  how and why?

One might even wonder  how and why it is  that human beings  are the only critters  with hands  and other physical attributes  that are able  to create  many things  that their minds imagine  and want  to invent.     As “smart” as dolphins,  elephants,  and chimpanzees  are said to be,  they are unable  to carry out  what their minds  might envision.     Is all this happenstance?

And then,  our human minds come  to the realization  that even though  humans are able  to invent many things,  they are totally incapable  of creating any  of the things  in the universe.     We don’t have  the ability  to lead the stars  in such a way as  to mark time  for us.     We cannot cause  the earth  to rotate  to give us  night and day.     We cannot stop a tsunami.     That list goes on forever.

When our LORD  talked to Job  in all his troubles  and got Job  to thinking  about all the things God does  in all  of creation,  God asked  in Job 38:36,

Who has  put wisdom  in the innermost being
Or given understanding  to the mind?

The LORD had Job think  about many wonders  in creation  like lightning,  thunder,  cloud movement,  all sorts of precipitation,  fulfilling the needs  of all sorts  of animals,  etc.     These are all  little things  under God’s control  —  and  they are all  utter impossibilities  for mankind.

Does mankind understand  the limitations  of his being?     But,  much more than that,  does mankind understand  the totally unlimited power  and wisdom  of God Almighty,  who made him  and sustains him?     All  of creation  shouts out  God’s limitless power  and authority.     Are we wise enough  to see  and understand  that it is God  who has given us a brain  and physical abilities  to invent things  for our conveniences?     Do we have  “wisdom  in the innermost being”  to understand  God’s authority  and power  over us?

Do we have the  wisdom  and  understanding  that is able  and willing  to honestly worship  and praise  our Creator,  Sustainer, and Redeemer?     As Job listened  to God’s testimonies,  he was enabled  to stop complaining  and to gather his  “wisdom”  and  “understanding”  so that he said  to the Lord  in Job 42:6,

Therefore  I retract,
And I repent  in dust and ashes.

Job’s God-given  “wisdom”  and  “understanding”  of God’s loving authority  led  to God’s blessings.     May we also understand  all of God’s testimonies  about His unlimited power  to bring us salvation  through faith  in Christ Jesus,  and say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  may we always  humbly look  to You  for all our needs.”

Love,
Margaret
