The Spirit  Explicitly Says

It is so easy  to get awfully tired  of warnings.     They’re everywhere  —  Thin ice  —  Slippery when wet  —  Electrical shock  —  Poisonous  —  Flammable.     But,  whether we like it  or not,  we are forewarned.     So,  what will we do about it?     Ignore it  and take a chance anyway?     Many do just that.

Some people  don’t like reading  the Bible  because it contains warnings.     O dear!     They don’t want anyone  telling them  what to do  and what not to do.     But then,  they are totally unable  to distinguish truth  from false doctrines.     They wrongly imagine  that anyone’s preaching is okay  because “religion”  is just about learning  to be reasonably good.

Well,  1 Timothy 4:1  has a warning  for us all,

But the Spirit  explicitly says  that in later times  some will fall away  from the faith,  paying attention  to deceitful spirits  and doctrines  of demons,  by means  of the hypocrisy  of liars seared  in their own conscience  as with a branding iron.

Everyone living since the time  of Christ  is living  in the  “later times”.     In other words,  we’ve always  been nearer  to the end today  than we were yesterday.     Nobody knows  when Judgment Day  will be here,  so we must all  always be ready.     What  “the Spirit explicitly says”  has been true  for absolutely everyone,  because our opportunities  for repentance end  the very moment we die.     There is no second chance  for anyone.

How does someone  “fall away  from the faith”?     They do it by  “paying attention  to deceitful spirits  and doctrines  of demons”.     In other words,  there are all sorts  of false preachers  preaching things contrary  to God’s word.     Their  “conscience”  is so branded  with lies  and hypocrisies  that they boldly preach  all sorts  of false doctrines  that will rob us  of the true faith  we need  in order  to receive  eternal life.

So,  how can we keep  from being robbed  of God’s truths  by these hypocrites?     We need  to daily study God’s word  to us  in the Bible,  check it out,  prayerfully seek understanding,  and believe  in God’s forgiveness  through Christ Jesus’ suffering,  death,  and resurrection.     We must learn  to recognize false preaching.     The Bible will teach us  to do just that.

We can’t afford  to have  an attitude  of not wanting  a warning  from God’s word.     King David had it right  when he sang  in Psalm 19:8-11,

The precepts  of the LORD  are right,  rejoicing the heart;
The commandment  of the LORD  is pure,  enlightening the eyes.

The fear  of the LORD  is clean,  enduring forever;
The judgments  of the LORD  are true;  they are righteous altogether.

They are more desirable  than gold,  yes,  than much fine gold;
Sweeter also than honey  and the drippings  of the honeycomb.

Moreover,  by them  Your servant  is warned;
In keeping them  there is great reward.

True love  gives warnings.     So glad  for God’s love,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Thank You  for Your eternal word.”

Love,
Margaret
