The Grace  and Knowledge

The apostle Peter  has given us all  some dire warnings  in his effort  to protect us  in the true faith.     We cannot afford  to dismiss  his message  of love.     Peter was a disciple  of Jesus  all during Jesus’ ministry.     In that time frame  he gained a lot  of knowledge  and came  to deeply know  and appreciate  the grace  of God.     The Lord  was so gracious  with Peter  when Peter denied Him.     Peter never forgot  the depths  of God’s love  in forgiving him.

Because  God’s love  for each  and every one  of us  is the most precious thing  anyone can ever have,  we need  to respect it  and live according to it.     That can become a problem  when there are so many false preachers  misleading people  into every sort  of sin.     They boldly lie  and deceive people  into believing false doctrines  —  all for the sake  of getting rich  and famous.     Peter tells  how all these false preachers  will be eternally condemned  — but,  so also  will all their followers  be condemned.

We all have the true gospel  in the word of God  —  the Bible.     We don’t have to be fooled  into following false doctrines  that will condemn us eternally.     Because we have  the gospel  in the Bible,  we need  to pay attention to it.     If we are  paying attention  to it,  we will know  the difference  between God’s truths  and false doctrines.

When we believe  what God actually tells us  in His word,  we have received  His “grace  and knowledge”.     When we believe God’s word,  we will know  that we are sinners  —  that we were  born sinners  —  and that we need  to have repentant hearts  that turn away  from the sins  of this world  —  and turn  to God  to live according  to His gracious word.     In believing  God’s word  in the Bible,  we will truly be assured  of His forgiveness  and realize  the wonder  of 2 Peter 3:9,

The Lord  is not slow  about His promise,  as some count slowness,  but is patient  toward you,  not wishing  for any  to perish  but for all  to come  to repentance.

It’s wonderful  to realize  God’s patience  with all  of us  —  that’s “knowledge”.     Yes,  we’ve got  to turn away  from the sins  of this world  —  that’s more “knowledge”  —  but, we’ve also got   to turn  to God  in repentance every time we fall.     We can trust His love  and patience  to forgive.     That’s a “knowledge”  and trust  in God’s  “grace”.

When we have that  “knowledge”  of God’s  “grace”,  we should never abuse  that love  or turn away  from it.     It’s our only hope.     So 2 Peter 3:18  tells us  to,

Grow  in the grace  and knowledge  of our Lord  and Savior Jesus Christ.     To Him  be the glory,  both now  and to the day  of eternity.     Amen.

It’s as we pay attention  to God’s  “grace  and knowledge”  in His word  that we will,

… know the truth,  and the truth  will make you free.     John 8:32

In the freedom  of God’s  “grace  and knowledge”  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord,  thank You  for leading us in Your word.”

Love,
Margaret
