Footsteps

Footsteps

Whatever  we do  in this life,  we leave footprints.     If we practice thievery,  drugs,   or violence,  they will all  leave their mark  of abuse  on the lives  of the people we are  in contact with  —  and devastate our lives eternally.     If we practice kindness,  helpfulness,  and trust  in the LORD,  that also  will leave a mark  on the lives  of those around us  —  and bring us  into a meaningful fellowship  with our Savior.     If our  “footsteps”  are in step  with our Savior’s righteous ways,  we will be   like little children  who love  imitating their parents’ ways  —  never able  to be “right on”,  but loving  to try.     God is perfect  in love  and holiness,  giving us  an awesome example  of the wonders  of a true love.     That is why  it is our desire  to imitate Him  by walking  in His “footsteps”.

God’s children  have always found it pleasant  and wondrous  to follow  in the  “footsteps”  of God’s love  and goodness.     We’re  so far  from perfect,  but the joy  of God’s goodness  urges us on.     That’s why God’s word  has verses  like the following,

Establish my footsteps  in Your word,
And do not let  any iniquity  have dominion  over me.       Psalm 119:133

Also  it is not good  for a person  to be without knowledge,
And he who hurries  his footsteps errs.       Proverbs 19:2

Righteousness  will go  before Him
And will make  His footsteps  into a way.     Psalm 85:13

He brought me up out  of the pit  of destruction,  out  of the miry clay,
And He set my feet  upon a rock  making my footsteps firm.       Psalm 40:2

When we get established  in God’s word,  we become stronger  in the knowledge  and surety  of God’s goodness  and are more apt  to look  to God  for help  whenever any sort  of  “iniquity”  tries  to have  “dominion”  over us.     We really need  to daily pray  that God would  “establish my footsteps.

If we’re  in a big hurry  to do things our way  —  without thinking about God’s will  in our lives,  we will be  throwing God’s given  “knowledge”  of His word out the window.     Leaning  on our own desires  causes our  “footsteps”  to err.

Absolutely everything God does  is done  in  “righteousness”  —  so,  when we follow  in God’s  “footsteps”,  God’s  “righteousness”  will become  “a way”  for us  to get  on the right track.     Then we will have  the peace  of God’s salvation  and leading.

When we fall  into sin,  we have fallen into  “the pit  of destruction”.     God does not want  to leave us there  to die,  so we must look  to Him  in prayer.     He surely will hear  our prayer  and set our  “feet upon a rock”.     God gives us  the solid promises  of His word  and love.     With the solidness  of God’s love  in Christ Jesus,  He makes  “my footsteps firm”.

Our  “footsteps”  in this life  are very important  as they lead to the eternity  of our ways.     Ephesians 5:1-2 urges us,

Therefore,  be imitators  of God,  as beloved children;  and walk  in love,  just as Christ also  loved you.

As God’s  “footsteps”  lead  to eternal life,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for leading us  on our way home.”

Love,
Margaret

Not that I have already obtained it,  or have already  become perfect, but I press on  in order that  I may  lay hold  of that for which also  I was laid hold of  by Christ Jesus.
