Hallowed Be Your Name
Hallowed Be Your Name
Christians often say the Lord’s Prayer. But, it is so well memorized that they might not really think about what they are saying. As Jesus taught us in Matthew 6:9 ( NASB ), we might start out by saying,
Our Father who is in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
We know when we say the word “hallowed“, it means we want God’s “name” to be holy and pure in our hearts and minds. So, how might that be done? There are many Bible verses that point us in the right direction of making God’s “name” holy in our hearts and whole being. As we think about the few listed below, let us think about how these sorts of things should be in our lives — and let us remember that the Lord’s “name“ includes everything that He is and stands for like: Redeemer, Creator, Father, Sustainer, Fortress, Rock, Savior, King, Victory, etc.
But let all who take refuge in You be glad,
Let them ever sing for joy;
And may You shelter them,
That those who love Your name may exult in You. Psalm 5:11
I will give thanks to the LORD according to His righteousness
And will sing praise to the name of the LORD Most High. Psalm 7:17
And those who know Your name will put their trust in You,
For You, O LORD, have not forsaken those who seek You. Psalm 9:10
Therefore I will give thanks to You among the nations, O LORD,
And I will sing praises to Your name. Psalm 18:49
Ascribe to the LORD the glory due to His name;
Worship the LORD in holy array. Psalm 29:2
Sing praise to the LORD, you His godly ones,
And give thanks to His holy name. Psalm 30:4
Teach me Your way, O LORD;
I will walk in Your truth;
Unite my heart to fear Your name. Psalm 86:11
In Your name they rejoice all the day,
And by Your righteousness they are exalted. Psalm 89:16
But You, O LORD, abide forever,
And Your name to all generations. Psalm 102:12
Bless the LORD, O my soul,
And all that is within me, bless His holy name. Psalm 103:1
Our help is in the name of the LORD,
Who made heaven and earth. Psalm 124:8
Praise the LORD, for the LORD is good;
Sing praises to His name, for it is lovely. Psalm 135:3
Of course, there is so much more. In these verses, we see that we keep God’s “name” holy by taking refuge in Him — singing — exulting — trusting — praising — being glad — worshiping — fearing, which means respecting — remembering how God is eternal and made us — thinking on how His “name”, His whole being, is lovely and most desirable.
Since all of the above is eternally true — and God does not change — what are we going to do about it?
In reverent faith, we say, “Hallelujah! LORD, may Your name always be holy in our whole being.”

Pray for our country.
The LORD made this day, let us rejoice and be glad in Him.
The word of the LORD is tried;
He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him.
Sing for joy in the LORD, O you righteous ones;
Praise is becoming to the upright.
How blessed are those who dwell in Thy house!
They are ever praising Thee.
Just as a father has compassion on his children,
So the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him.
O give thanks to the LORD, for He is good;
For His lovingkindness is everlasting.
Glory in His holy name;
Let the heart of those who seek the LORD be glad.
Not that I have already obtained it, or have already become perfect, but I press on in order that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus.
