The World  Through Its Wisdom  Did Not Come  to Know God

There are so many different religions  and cults  in this world.     All claim  that they are the right and true religion.     But,  only God’s word  has proven its truthfulness  and faithfulness.     The various religions  and cults  can make prophecies,  but are helpless  in causing their words  to come true.       They always have an excuse  of some sort  for their words not coming true.      We even see many groups,  claiming  to be Christian,  going way beyond God’s word  by either adding to it  or taking away  from it.     They pick  and choose  Bible verses  they wish  to twist  and emphasize,  totally ignoring the context  and  other biblical verses  supporting  God’s actual meaning.

All these false interpretations  of God’s word  are according  to the ways  of the world.     In other words,  they are from people  who want  to be leaders,  and pretend  they have a whole lot  of wisdom.     Power and riches are their greatest desire.

For all their conniving,  Paul quotes Isaiah 29:14   in 1 Corinthians 1:19  by saying,

For it is written,
“I will destroy the wisdom  of the wise,
And the cleverness  of the clever  I will set aside.”

No false preacher —  or his followers  will be saved  in eternity.     People are following mere people  —  instead of dwelling  on God’s word  and trusting Jesus.

In the first part  of 1 Corinthians 1,  Paul  even admonishes the Corinthians  for specifically following certain  true Christian preachers  of the gospel,  as if the preacher  should be glorified  more than Christ.     That also  is not right.     When God’s word  is being rightly preached,  no one  should be considered better  than others.     We follow Christ  through God’s word  —  not through people  for whatever charisma they might have.

So,  when Paul considers  all preachers,  he says  in 1 Corinthians 1:20-21,

Where is the wise man?     Where is the scribe?     Where is the debater  of this age?     Has not God made foolish the wisdom  of the world?

For since  in the wisdom  of God  the world  through its wisdom  did not come  to know God,  God was well-pleased  through the foolishness  of the message preached  to save those  who believe.

If we’re using our worldly  “wisdom”  in proudly proclaiming  to know all there is to know  about God  and His ways  —  or if we’re proudly claiming  only one particular preacher  has everything right  and he’s the one we’ll follow  —  we don’t know God.     We are not  to trust ourselves  or any certain person.     Much rather,  Christ Jesus must be  the center  of our faith.

Jesus only is our focus.     He teaches us in John 15:4,

Abide in Me,  and I in you.     As the branch cannot bear fruit  of itself  unless it abides  in the vine,  so neither can you  unless you abide  in Me.

Trusting in Jesus only  as our Guide,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord Jesus,  thank You  for giving us  Your eternal word  —  and for saving us according to Your word.”

Love,
Margaret

Not that I have already obtained it,  or have already  become perfect, but I press on  in order that  I may  lay hold  of that for which also  I was laid hold of  by Christ Jesus.
