When You Pass Through the Waters
When You Pass Through the Waters
Our LORD wants to comfort and reassure us as we face dangers and troubles. So, He gently speaks to us in Isaiah 43:1-3,
But now, thus says the LORD, your Creator, O Jacob,
And He who formed you, O Israel,
“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;
I have called you by name; you are Mine!
“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
And through the rivers, they will not overflow you.
When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched,
Nor will the flame burn you.
“For I am the LORD your God,
The Holy one of Israel, your Savior.”
God made us and loves us. More than that, He has also redeemed us in Christ Jesus. When God says, “You are Mine!” He is showing how very dear we are to Him. So, in whatever danger we need to face in this life, the LORD promises, “I will be with you”. When we read about passing “through the waters”, we think of Israel crossing the Red Sea on dry ground, in Exodus 14, and marvel at how they all crossed safely. When we read about “when you walk through the fire”, we think of Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego when they were thrown into the fiery furnace in Daniel 3.
Then we think of Jesus’ promise in Matthew 28:19-20,
I am with you always, even to the end of the age.
We might imagine that we will be physically invincible in every situation. But, we must also consider what Jesus said in Matthew 24:9,
Then they will deliver you to tribulation, and will kill you, and you will be hated by all nations because of My name.
Jesus also spoke of such tribulations in Luke 11:49,
The wisdom of God said, “I will send to them prophets and apostles, and some of them they will kill and some they will persecute.”
How can God keep His promise of keeping us safe, while also saying some of His children will be killed and persecuted?
It’s as Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego said in Daniel 3:17-18,
Our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the furnace of blazing fire; and He will deliver us out of your hand, O king. But even if He does not, let it be known to you, O king, that we are not going to serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up.
God is fully capable of rescuing us physically. But, there are times when God’s wisdom allows His children to be killed and persecuted. Even then, God is with us to the end. He protects us spiritually and takes us to our home in heaven, where we will see the great love in His wisdom.
In awe of God’s great leading, we say, “Hallelujah! Lord Jesus, You suffered and died to take away our sins. Let us always remember Your glory and love.”

Pray for our country.
The LORD made this day, let us rejoice and be glad in Him.
The word of the LORD is tried;
He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him.
Sing for joy in the LORD, O you righteous ones;
Praise is becoming to the upright.
How blessed are those who dwell in Thy house!
They are ever praising Thee.
Just as a father has compassion on his children,
So the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him.
O give thanks to the LORD, for He is good;
For His lovingkindness is everlasting.
Glory in His holy name;
Let the heart of those who seek the LORD be glad.
Not that I have already obtained it, or have already become perfect, but I press on in order that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus.
