For the Joy

For  the Joy

We people  will cry  for many different reasons.     There was a time  when the people  of Israel cried  because  they heard  the word  of God  and deeply understood it.     The vast wisdom  and true love  of God  really moved them  to realize  their total dependence  upon the LORD  —  and how far they had strayed  from His word  and tender love.     They realized  God’s eternal faithfulness,  even during the times  they had been unaware  of His love.     They had gone through times  when they had doubted  God’s nearness.    But,  then they realized  God had always been near  and had never changed  in His love  for them.     It was mind-boggling  and most awesome.     So,  they cried.     They were so undeserving  —  and yet,  God remained ever faithful.

That’s when Nehemiah  told them  in Nehemiah 8:10,

Go,  eat of the fat,  drink  of the sweet,  and send portions  to him  who has nothing prepared;  for this day  is holy  to our Lord.     Do not be grieved,  for the joy  of the LORD  is your strength.

Just think.     The time  we come  to understand  —  and accept  —  God’s love  and wisdom,  is a day  that  “is holy  to our Lord”.     It’s a very special time  for our LORD,  when we open up  our hearts  and minds  to His faithful love  and wisdom.     And  —  it’s special  to us also  because we get  to realize  the awesome wonder  of God’s love  for someone  like us.     We are  much more special  than we ever realized  before.

That’s why  it’s not a time  for crying.     It should be  a time  of “joy”  —  for the joy  of the LORD  is your strength.”     Remembering  God’s faithful love  in all our times  of tribulation  should bring a special “joy”  to our hearts  —  a joy that strengthens us  to face  whatever sorts  of troubles  we need  to endure  in the future.

Remembering  God’s love  and faithfulness  in the midst  of our agony  gives us  the joy  of the LORD”.     That is when  we bring  to mind  just how almighty God is  and how He has proven  His love  for us  in Christ Jesus.     Then we remember  that we don’t  have to be afraid  of the evils  in this world,  because  our lives  are in God’s hands.     Bad things may  —  and will  —  happen,  but we are  in God’s hands.     He will make us victorious  in Christ Jesus  in the end.

That truth gives us  “joy”  and strengthens us  to bear our burdens.     So, when our hearts  are heavy,  let us go  to God’s eternal word  to be strengthened  in the “joy”  that is ours  in Christ Jesus.     Then,  in the comfort  of God’s truths,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  Your faithful love  and wisdom  makes us ever joyful.”

Love,
Margaret
