If You Are Reviled  for the Name  of Christ

There were many times  when Jesus was reviled  for His preaching  and miracles.     He was called  a blasphemer,  accused of having a demon,  and charged with being able  to cast out demons  by Beelzebul,  the ruler of the demons.     These were all false,  trumped-up charges  —  lies.     God’s truths were so twisted  these accusers were speaking  against the Holy Spirit.     So,  Jesus warned them  in Matthew 12:32,

Whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit,  it shall not be  forgiven him,  either in this age  or in the age to come.

Then when Jesus spoke of the end times  to His followers,  He told them in Matthew 24:9,

Then they will deliver you  to tribulation,  and will kill you,  and you will be hated  by all nations  because of My name.

These end time tribulations  have been going on  since Jesus’ resurrection.     The apostle Peter also teaches us  in 1 Peter 4:12-14,

Beloved,  do not be surprised  at the fiery ordeal  among you,  which comes upon you  for your testing,  as though some strange thing  were happening to you;  but to the degree  that you share the sufferings of Christ,  keep on rejoicing,  so that also at the revelation  of His glory  you may rejoice  with exultation.

If you are reviled  for the name  of Christ,  you are blessed,  because the Spirit  of glory  and of God rests  on you.

We learn that we will be tested  —  and our “testing” is not  to be thought of  as a “strange thing”  because it has been foretold.     It certainly is not comfortable  to be attacked  for having faith  in Christ Jesus,  our Savior.     The hatred and distain  that is spewed out  is so unreasonable  and distorted  from the truth,  it’s hard to comprehend.

But,  we do need  to make sure  we are actually being  “reviled  for the name  of Christ”.     If we are the ones  pushing false teachings  of any sort,  we are well deserving  of angry words  and harsh reprimands.     So,  before we start claiming  that our  “true faith”  in Jesus  is being bashed,  we had better open up our Bibles  and start studying God’s word  big time  for the truths  He wants us  to hold tightly onto.

Then,  when we see straight  from God’s words  in the Bible  what God wants us  to believe,  we can be assured  that we are standing  in the right faith according to God’s promises  —  not some mere man’s philosophy  or false doctrine  or cult.     Knowing for sure  that we are abiding  in God’s word,  we will know,  “you are blessed,  because the Spirit of glory  and of God rests  on you.”

Knowing the goodness  and comfort  of honestly abiding  in God’s eternal word,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for giving us Your eternal word  that we might know the joy  of Your love  and salvation  in Christ Jesus.”

Love,
Margaret
