Not Of Seed  Which Is Perishable  But Imperishable

Honestly knowing Christ Jesus  as our Savior changes us.     In this world,  we can buy new articles  of clothing  and they are fine  for quite some time.     But then,  they get worn out.     The change  didn’t last.     We can plant seeds  of various kinds.     Whatever is planted  will last  for as long  as  that kind of plant lasts,  and depends  on the proper nutritional  and weather conditions.     When that plant dies,  the changes it made  do not last.

God’s word  is different.     It’s eternal,  as Isaiah 40:8 says,

The grass withers,  the flower fades,
But the word  of our God  stands forever.

God’s word  is the eternal truth  of our salvation  —  the salvation we have  through faith  in Christ Jesus.     That truth  will never change  —  and the changes  it makes in true believers  will never change.     That is why 1 Peter 1:22-23 says,

Since you have  in obedience  to the truth  purified your souls  for a sincere love  of the brethren,  fervently love one another  from the heart,  for you have been born again  not of seed  which is perishable  but imperishable,  that is,  through the living  and enduring word  of God.

God likens  His eternal word  to a seed  that is planted  in our hearts.     When we hear  and learn  God’s word,  it begins  to grow  in our hearts  and change us.     Learning  of God’s love  plants seeds  of love  in our hearts.     As 1 John 4:19 says,

We love,  because He first loved us.

The love  of God  is eternal,  so when that love  is planted  in our hearts,  we begin to show  the fruits of love  in all our ways  of living.     Galatians 5:22-23 shows us,

But the fruit  of the Spirit  is love,  joy,  peace,  patience,  kindness,  goodness,  faithfulness,  gentleness,  self-control;  against such things there is no law.

All  of this  grows in us  not of seed  which is perishable  but imperishable,  that is,  through the living  and enduring word  of God.”     When God’s word  is planted  and accepted  in our hearts,  it is imperishable.     We are weak  as we face our trials,  but God’s word  within us  is  imperishable.     It will never change.     God keeps His promises  —  His word.     Knowing this,  we are strengthened  to  “love one another  from the heart”  because God’s eternal love  will never fail us.

Because we can depend  on God,  we keep on looking  to Him  for the strength we need  to live  to His glory.     So,  we daily  open up God’s word  and learn from it,  thus allowing His  “imperishable” seed  to grow  in us  —  and our lives begin  to show  “the fruit  of the Spirit”.

We let God do His work  of salvation  and teach us  as we abide  in His word.     Ever glad  for God’s “imperishable” word,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord Jesus,  thank You  for planting the imperishable seed  of Your word  in our hearts.”

Love,
Margaret
