And He Sat On It

And  He Sat  On It

There are many people  who claim  Jesus is  not God.      They discount  all the miracles He did  —  all the Old Testament prophecies  He fulfilled  —  and the message  He preached.     There is yet another  power of God  that they fail  to think of.     This power was shown  on what we now call  Palm Sunday.     That is the day  Jesus rode  into Jerusalem  on the colt  of a donkey  and the people shouted,

Hosanna!
Blessed is He  who comes  in the name  of the LORD;
Blessed is the coming kingdom  of our father David;
Hosanna  in the highest!       Mark 11:9-10

So,  one might ask  what is so special  about that.     The awesome specialness is shown  in Mark 11:12.  where Jesus directed two disciples,  saying,

Go into the village opposite you,  and immediately  as you enter it,  you will find a colt tied there,  on which no one yet  has ever sat;  untie it and bring it here.

Well,  they did that,  and we read in verse 7,

They brought the colt  to Jesus  and put their coats  on it;  and He sat  on it.

That is the miracle showing God’s power.     Every colt  —  whether it is a horse,  donkey,  or mule  —  will buck the daylights  out of a person  until it becomes trained  to accept  a load  on its back.     And,  as verse 12 said,  this was a colt  on which no one yet  has ever sat.     To add to the wonder,  this colt stayed calm  with the shouting crowds  waving palm branches.     Why didn’t this colt buck?     Because Jesus is God  and has control  over all things.     There isn’t any animal  that He doesn’t have power over.     Some biblical examples could include:

1 Samuel, chapters 4-6   —  The Philistines had captured the Ark of God.     As a punishment,  God inflicted them with hemorrhoids.      They knew they had better return the Ark  to the Israelites,  but how?     The Philistine priests said they needed  to make a new cart,  hitch two milk cows to it  and leave their calves home,  and put articles of gold on the cart  along with the Ark  as a guilt offering.     If the two cows take the Ark back to the Israelites,  they were to know that the LORD  had inflicted them  with hemorrhoids.    If the cows didn’t take the Ark back,  the hemorrhoids just happened by chance.

Those cows left their calves  and went straight to Israel,  mooing all the way.     Bottom line  —  God’s power led those cows  to the right place  and made them leave their beloved calves.

Exodus tells about the plagues  in Egypt  as the Israelites were freed  from slavery.     The same power of God over His creatures  can be seen  in Exodus, chapters 7-10, where God displayed His power over snakes,  fish,  frogs,  gnats,  swarms of insects,  livestock,  and locusts.

Daniel,  chapter 6 tells how God shut the mouths  of the lions  when Daniel was thrown  into the lions’ den.

So,  when Jesus rode  that unridden colt,  He was humbly proclaiming His Godhood.     We see that  and praise Him  for condescending so low  to suffer  and die  to pay  for all our sins.

In respect  for His wondrously quiet love,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord Jesus,  Your name is blessed forever.”

Love,
Margaret
