The Testimony  That God  Has Given

We know  that in our court system  there are many witnesses willing  to lie  under oath.     Their testimony  is a lie.     Sometimes their lies are detected  —  and other times not.     So much for sinful mankind.

But,  in His holiness,  God cannot lie.     As God and man,  Jesus said  in John 14:6,

I am the way,  and the truth,  and the life;  no one comes  to the Father  but through Me.

Then,  1 John 5:9-12  sharply points out,

If we receive  the testimony  of men,  the testimony  of God  is greater;  for the testimony  of God is this,  that He has testified  concerning His Son.

The one who believes  in the Son  of God  has the testimony  in himself;  the one who does not believe God  has made Him  a liar,  because he has not believed  in the testimony  that God has given  concerning His Son.     And the testimony  is this,  that God has given us eternal life,  and this life is  in His Son.

He who has the Son  has the life;  he who does not have the Son  of God  does not have the life.

God’s testimony  is the greatest  and most trustworthy testimony  ever given  because throughout the Old Testament,  God prophesied  many details  about the Savior  —  and in the New Testament  we get to see  the exact fulfillment  of every one  of those prophesies.     So,  God gives factual evidence  that all  of His testimonies  concerning Jesus  are true  and trustworthy.

So now  it’s time  for us to examine ourselves.     Do we believe God’s proven testimony  concerning His Son?     Or  —  are we calling  God Almighty  a liar?    Do we honestly  and sincerely believe  “that God has given us eternal life,  and this life is  in His Son”?     We must figure out  just what we believe  because  there are churches claiming  to be Christian,  but teaching  that the power to grant  “eternal life”  is in the hands  of their church leader  —  and/or teaching that we must do  many good works  to earn   “eternal life”  —  and/or teaching that we must obey  the man-made commandments  of that particular church.

Trusting  in mere men is the path  to hell.     Trusting  in our own good works  is another path  to hell.     Believing in full forgiveness  through the merits  of Jesus Christ alone  is the one-and-only way  to  “eternal life”.     God says so.     As Jesus said,  “no one comes  to the Father  but through Me.”     He rightly said that  because being the fulfillment  of Old Testament prophecies  validated  the fact  that Jesus is God  our Savior.

Do we have Jesus  in our heart?     When we need forgiveness,  do we ask Jesus for forgiveness  in His name?     Then,  do we trust  and believe  that Jesus has granted us forgiveness  as He promised?     We need  to believe  the testimony  that God  has given  concerning His Son”.     If we’re not sure  what that testimony is,  we must study our Bibles  some more  to discover God’s gracious love.

Then  in joy,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  Your word  is truth!     Thank You!”

Love,
Margaret
